Connecting PS3 For First Time to HD LCD TV

I ordered a samsung 22" hd ready lcd tv [arrived today] and a hdmi cable. I'm looking to connect it to my ps3. It's currently connected to a standard tv.

Is it simply a case of plugging it in or do I need to change any settings within ps3 before hooking it up to the monitor?

Hook it up with the hdmi and your ps3 should automatically recognise a new connection, then go into your setup options

You may not get a picture, if you have that problem (I did) just hold the power button down (from off) until it double beeps (3-5sec) and it will change from the playstation 2 style output to HDMI.

    I hope that makes sense.

Re: Connecting PS3 For First Time to HD LCD TV

    Was a doddle. It works!

Just one final thing - spec says it has dvb tuner built in - do I need to buy an aerial to get channels or can it find them without an external aerial to get free channels? Am new to this digital tv.

It did an initial scan when I turned it on the first time but found nothing.

Re: Connecting PS3 For First Time to HD LCD TV

Yeah you'll need an aerial and the Play TV hardware (http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStatio...V/Product.html) to use the PS3 as a DVB-T tuner.

I think PP05 means his 22" TV has a DVB-T tuner. True though on the PS3.

You can only use the PS3 as a PVR IF you have Play TV.

Re: Connecting PS3 For First Time to HD LCD TV

Thanks guys. I'm using it with a cheap freeview set-top box.

If anyone is looking for a small bedroom tv - this one is ideal.

What's the model number? Is it the T220HD by any chance? If so, how much was it and where did you get it from?

Yeah thats the one Patch. Samsung t220hd. I bought it from ebuyer just under 200.

A final question about my setup:

Is blu-ray going to make a difference on a screen this size (22" - we sit about 5 feet away) or shall I stick with upscaled standard dvds?

Re: Connecting PS3 For First Time to HD LCD TV

I am guessing not. However it also depends on the distance away from the TV. If you are twice as close as you would be with a 42" then maybe.

Rent one and see or pick up Casino Royale for £7-8 second hand as it was bundled for a while.

Beyond definition I do find Blu-Ray's smoother and more vibrant than DVDs. I think they have a wider colour range and the resolution/refresh is the same internationally instead of the whole PAL/NTSC malarky.

Generally the newer the film the better the blu-ray over it's DVD version. There have been some very shonkily mastered DVDs. 12 Monkeys has an TERRIBLE DVD, its a VHS 16:9 in a 4:3 window converted to PAL from NTSC and then added black borders to the 4:3 to make it 16:9 on my TV.
So even if the blu-ray is no better than a DVD could manage, they usually better mastered.

Case and point is the original Transformers film, it has some unfocused scenes, but generally is far better than the DVD release I saw.

Wouldn't pay £25 for a BL over a £5 dvd though, but I rent now and they cost the same on lovefilm.
