Anyone with a DSi and Imported games?

    How do's

Just a quick question. It seems my DSLite is suffering a bit of screen issue with dead pixels starting to appear after nearly 4 years of owning it. I was looking at a replacement and the DS Lite is starting to go from the shelves and the DSi taking it's place. I have heard the stories that the DSi is region locked completely or its region locked for the DSi Ware store only.

Does anyone have a DSi and plays a lot of imported games from the states and Japan? Just wondering if it is region locked before I got out and get one to replace the lite. If not then I may just buy another DS Lite so I know I can play the games I have now.

    Cheers

Re: Anyone with a DSi and Imported games?

I don't own one myself but according to this article and a recent thread on neogaf it's just DSi games that are region coded and DS games from any region will still be playable on any DSi.

Nintendo has issued a statement to CVG to clarify the confusion over the region-based restrictions on the new DSi.

"DSi software (software that is only compatible with DSi) is region locked, eg: European DSi software can only be played on European DSi consoles," a Nintendo spokesperson has told CVG.

They confirmed that this means BOTH download-able games and future DSi-only cartridge-based games would be region locked.

"Nintendo DS software however is region free so you can play any DS software on DSi from any region. You can also browse the Internet on your DSi wherever you are in the world and exchange your photos with friends from around the world."

It might also affect DSi enhanced DS games bare in mind

It's not too bad for a DSi to get one, I got mine a few months ago for around £100 from Argos (20% off a bundle and sold the games in the bundle)

Re: Anyone with a DSi and Imported games?

I thought region locking was a thing of the past (given that the console before it was region free? MAJOR BS)? Major fail on Nintendo's part. My girlfriend has an American Wii and it's such a massive pain to get software we hardly ever bother (and the amount of times we've passed by a good deal in a shop and wished we could pick it up...).

Imo, region coding just pushes people to either piracy or... rage ¬_¬
