I've never been able to see it as I've a Japanese unit, but it doesn't stop you from bookmarking the normal page and using the browser to get to it (it's exactly the same thing)

I know but few clicks less is always better especially if it was all fine in FW 3.0/3.01

Did you download the firmware or do it via the update in the menu?

There was a message somewhere I found before about re-enabling the icon, I'll have a look and see if I can find it again.

Re: Sony borked iPlayer with update 3.1?

    Easy fix.

Just shut down the console and disconnect from mains.

Then switch back on. The ps3 required a cold boot for it to reappear and if at first your dont succeed, try again.

    It does come back.

Mostly for the faceache fans really. Best thing i found is the internet browser - very nippy and responsive now.

    Heres full list..........

    * Added the ability to access some Facebook features from the XMB.

    * Added the option to automatically send updates to the users Facebook profile when Trophies are unlocked.

    * Added the option to automatically send updates to the users Facebook profile when items are downloaded from the PlayStation Store.

    * Added the option to automatically send updates to the users Facebook profile for in-game events (in compatible games)

    * The [Friends] list has been redesigned.

    * The user is now able to change the color of their [Profile].

    * Expanded [Photo] folders and playlists are now displayed in a grid, rather than a list.

*Added the ability to send error reports to sony
    http://www.ps3attitude.com/new/2009/1...

    * Added RTVE, Antena 3 and LaSexta catch-up TV website shortcuts for users in Spain under [TV].

    * Added NOS catch-up TV website shortcut for users in the Netherlands under [TV].

    * Added AXN and Animax catch-up TV website shortcuts for users in Czech, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia under [TV].

    * Added TVNZ catch-up TV website shortcut for users in New Zealand under [TV].

    * Added [Facebook] menu item under [Account Management] allowing the user to change Facebook sharing and account settings.

    * Improved the performance of the Internet Browser

The latest update incorporates Facebook into the PS3 experience. By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed.
You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3's built-in web browser.

This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.

Additional highlights from update 3.10 include:
The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.
The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback we received after update 3.00. Additionally, you can now choose a colour for your PSN ID on the XMB.

I've got a USA PS3 and iPlayer works fine for me (I had to reboot it after updating the firmware as the icon wasn't there), but after that it's all good.

    SWMBO loves it!

Re: Sony borked iPlayer with update 3.1?

    Right got it sorted, finally.

    Solution:

Go to your internet browser and navigate to BBC iPlayer manually or open it from bookmarked pages.

Watch for 5 minutes (anything will do)

Once you quit internet browser and restart icon appears in your menu (in slightly different position than before)

    Ta da!

    All good now.

pne thing that annoys me about iplayer on the ps3 is that the mouse pointer doesnt disapear when watching something, acturally that goes for any online im watching grr.

I too never had an iplayer icon on the dashboard, dont think i even had a tv tab, (running 3.01)

Something not quite right with your particular setup there. Firstly you should have the tv tab there since 3.0 (unless the unit is not a UK model, in which case you would get what ever free channel locale from where its from) Also when i select iplayer from tv tab it plays fine and after about 10seconds watching in full screen both the cursor and time progress bar fade out and disappear behind what your watching (only pop up again and become visible when you hit controller)

The type of viewing experience you have now sounds to me like when i used to view iplayer before it became "officially" supported way back. Is both the model uk and the account you set up uk as well? Cant think of anything else of top of my head that could be causing this for you
