Exclamation Xbox 360 Issues Please Help

Okay I have an Xbox 360 that is currently not playing Xbox 360 Games. I looked up on the computer and it stated that the Laser on the Drive would either need to be reset or replaced all together. I took it to a repair shop and told them the issue that I was having and they said the samething. Turns out it wasnt the issue. About 7 months ago a new Drive was placed in the Xbox 360 due to the old drive went out on the original owner. The drive wasnt married to the Motherboard however the old one that went out was. I got the old drive took it to the shop for them to get sometype of numbers off of it to reset the motherboard. I called today and found out that there having troubles find the numbers ( I dont know what numbers are needed) to reset the motherboard to the new drive. Im asking for somehelp that maybe I can give the Repair Shop. They send all the repairs to a Computer Wiz that experts in issues like this. However he is having troubles locating the numbers either for the motherboard and the drive to reset it.

Re: Xbox 360 Issues Please Help

If I'm understanding this correctly, the procedure is very similar to that required to play copied games. As such, and the likely legal issues it is going to cause if this is indeed the case, I've closed the thread.

If, on consultation with the Gaming Mods I've got the wrong end of the stick, I'll happily reopen the thread.

Right, I'm happy to reopen this after discussion.

Please don't let my faith that this is a question for legitimate reasons be misplaced.

Re: Xbox 360 Issues Please Help

I've had plenty of experience with Xbox's not reading discs and fixing it.

Dirty lens - every single time. Open the DVD drive up yourself (since the Xbox has already been opened, might as well) and put some isopropyl alcohol on a cotton ear bud and give it a good spin clean. Alcohol isn't nessecary but it's the best for the job...

Every single Xbox I've had problems with the drive reading discs have been fixed by this. I might as well throw out there now, that if the DVD Drive has trouble opening sometimes too, take out the black rubber band from the front opening mechanism and clean it - fixes that instantly too.

IF lens cleaning doesn't fix it, then replace the laser - it's actually not that difficult, and easy in comparison to the efforts with changing the DVD drive where you need to swap the DVD keys over which is a giant hassle. The Xbox also records if the machine has ever been powered up without a DVD data cable connected too btw, so you may want to avoid that if you can. DVD lasers go for pretty cheap on eBay, just make sure you got the one for your DVD drive model/brand.
