I've not updated yet..although I will do, as the OtherOS never really worked properly due to the total lack of hardware support.

Did experiment for a while trying to make it play videos with VLC (and other players in the end), but it just ran so slowly..it was impossible. You could get the sound working but never any high resolution video.

It's still frustrating that Sony are removing this feature, BUT i understand why and they are legally justified..we agreed to it in the EULA when we started using the console, and so c'est la vie. I own my PS3 hardware and I can do what I like with that, but Sony own the software..I just have a licence to use it

The latest firmware has always been included with game releases, just in case people aren’t connected to the internet. That way they can play regardless.

Re: How Many of you guys with Phat PS3 have updated firmware?

Have updated. If anyone wants to downgrade, I expect like the PSP, a way will be possible if the "homebrew" community get far enough. People are obviously trying to get proper homebrew to run on 3.21 but supposedly not much work has been done with 3.30 as quite a-bit of new security measures were put into that (along with an update of ToS which allows Sony to send background updates when a user signs into PSN).

Lack of PSN < Other OS support IMO and I'm not holding my breath for geohype to deliver. No doubt his exploit was the first proper attack but Sony don't want the PSP fiasco all over again and have sent in the big guns (and the ladies and gents at IBM) in to try and curb "homebrew".

If people will be able to downgrade, then it will make the original firmware PS3 collectors items not collectable. We shall see

Both my fat and slim are fully updated and used often.

Does it play bluray movies? Check.
    Does it play games? Check.
Does it allow me to play games online with friends for free? Check.

Everything is a go! Thats all I really care about.

Re: How Many of you guys with Phat PS3 have updated firmware?

    I updated it last night...

i always liked that i had the pssibility to use the OtherOS, but i never actually got round to installing anything on it anyways.

I'm an Xbox gamer anyways these days, my PS3 is a blueray player and HiRes streamer (it copes better than xbox at streaming 720 - 1080 is still a bit of a ball ache).

    ah well.
