Not a happy chap, done all the software things to fix it that I can find on the internet so I am guessing its a hardware fault.
Anyone sucessfully done the laser/tray replacement procedure?

Does it not read Blus nor DVDs?
Got a 60GB myself in the bedroom to just use as a media server/playing downloadable games on, never tried the replacement as the drives are too expensive & the lens too fiddly (I think) There are plenty og guides out there though
Reads nothing, CDs, DVDs, Bluray, disc doesn't even spin up.

Hello mate,
I had the YLOD (Fixed it in a thread below), but a friend of mine had a phat PS3 from about 2 years ago and he used this guide that is on youtube, you gotta obviously find out the lser to get for yours, which once looked into i dont think it's too hard to find out, then follow the guide to repair it.

If you cant be bothered to do that then maybe you want to think about console doctor,

Although it looks like they charge £89.99 for a laser reapair( back to you in 5 days though)
Personally i'd find out how much the lasers are then fix it myself.
I had the same problem with my first PS3 ( not reading any discs all of a sudden). Thankfully it was within warranty. Like everyone has mentioned, its one of the more common faults with the PS3 and requires a new lens.
Change the laser yourself. I got one for £60 off ebay, and had it changed in around an hour. Everything in the PS3 goes together one way, its actually really easy to take apart. Pity a cap blew on the motherboard due to a power fault and I had to take the laser out again to get the PS3 replaced by sony
