Memory card. Do I have to activate it?

I have got my 9yr old son a DSi XL and we inserted the sd card in the slot but when he tries to download from the shop we get a "not enough memory" message.

Do I somehow have to activate the card or am I not understanding the instructions.

I know I am 70 yrs old, but I am not completely senile yet, but I am a bit confused and could do with some expert advice please.

This is my first post, so be gentle please. Thanks.

Re: Memory card. Do I have to activate it?

Nintendo have a support section on this here :

    http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/sys...na/sdCards.jsp

I believe you need to format the card (while it is in the DS) and tell the DS to actually save the files to it, take a look in the memory settings. Believe it works like a mobile phone where you have to set the default storage to the memory card.

Theres a bit about troubleshooting at the bottom of the Nintendo link on repairing a card which may be worth looking at also.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the quick reply, I had already looked at the link which you posted, but it doesn't actually tell you how to format a card or even if you need to, hence my confusion.

I will have a look at memory settings and see if I have any luck there, (if I can find them, lol)

check to see if the slider on the memory card is not set to lock, if it is it wont allow you to store or remove anything from it

Yeah I forgot about the slider on the SD cards. That could well be it!

Re: Memory card. Do I have to activate it?

The card is not locked, when I found my way into the settings it shows the game memory as 507 blocks and when I switch to sd card it shows 9,999 blocks which is about right as it's a 2gb card.

So plenty of memory BUT, when I went to download the nintendo games, again it says not enough memory, AAAAAARGH!

Obviously, for some reason it is ignoring the card.

    I give up!!!!!!!!!

Is there anywhere in the settings where you can tell it to use the SD card as opposed to game memory?

Re: Memory card. Do I have to activate it?

Have you got an SD card in your PC?

If you have you can format it in there, or if you have a Nintendo Wii there is a slot in the front in the dropdown bit and you can format it on the Wii.
