I had read nothing but positive reviews about Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Even the few criticisms seem to say in general it was a good looking at times and otherwise nice game.
Now bare in mind I enjoyed Enchanted Arms, I can easily forgive some less than stellar graphics.
Star Ocean: TLH looks wretched. Its like someone bump-maped a PS1 game. No lighting, pre-rendered or real time that I could see. Barely any sound design, when you do get some music its switched on instantly, no background sounds. It wouldn't look so bad if they had had even basic lighting, not set auto-levels to maximum and included even some basic environmental sound effects.
There might be a game in there somewhere, but frankly I would AVOID it like the plague.
Thankfully I rented it from Lovefilm so at least I can send it back post haste.
If you are in the market for a nice looking JRPG FF XIII is at least IMHO good fun for the first 30 hours (contrary I know). If you want a good Space Action RPG get Mass Effect 2. If you want a good fun RPG experience you haven't had before Valkyria Chronicles is it. Also if you want a light weight, clichéd JRPG Enchanted Arms is in bargain bins across the land.
Anyway I back off to play Tron 2.0 on the PC.
