Exclamation Gah! My Eyes! Star Ocean: TLH

I had read nothing but positive reviews about Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Even the few criticisms seem to say in general it was a good looking at times and otherwise nice game.

Now bare in mind I enjoyed Enchanted Arms, I can easily forgive some less than stellar graphics.

Star Ocean: TLH looks wretched. Its like someone bump-maped a PS1 game. No lighting, pre-rendered or real time that I could see. Barely any sound design, when you do get some music its switched on instantly, no background sounds. It wouldn't look so bad if they had had even basic lighting, not set auto-levels to maximum and included even some basic environmental sound effects.

There might be a game in there somewhere, but frankly I would AVOID it like the plague.

Thankfully I rented it from Lovefilm so at least I can send it back post haste.

If you are in the market for a nice looking JRPG FF XIII is at least IMHO good fun for the first 30 hours (contrary I know). If you want a good Space Action RPG get Mass Effect 2. If you want a good fun RPG experience you haven't had before Valkyria Chronicles is it. Also if you want a light weight, clichéd JRPG Enchanted Arms is in bargain bins across the land.

Anyway I back off to play Tron 2.0 on the PC.

I don't get why you think the graphics of the game looks bad?? I think the graphics, design of character are pretty good.
But graphics aren't everything its the gameplay and story that draws most RPG fans attention isn't it?? Well i think the gameplay and story is brilliant, the battle system easily recognisable from previous star ocean titles.
Now Enchanted Arms that is the worst RPG game made by far,why i say that is because you jump into battle every 2 seconds and very annoying in battle you hear costant dialogue from every attack, but the story is good but its a like or hate, same as Star ocean.

Re: Gah! My Eyes! Star Ocean: TLH

Sorry folks I was in a bad mood after playing this. I should have stepped back and given it a second chance after all it hadn't really gotten started.

I just needed to get my initial reaction off my chest. I found the Japanese voice acting a bit bland and grating. Maybe if I play it with the English dub I can get into it again. Reading more the earliest sections are commented on as being some of the least impressive of the game. I will get back on the horse when I haven't had a frustrating and tiring day. I really should have played the bullet storm demo or some burnout to blow off steam.
