PS3 Update causing problems for HDD upgrade?

Hi guys

I've been following the news on thesixthaxis.com over the past months on what seems to be the past couple of updates bricking PS3s when you try to upgrade the hard drive.

This is a big pain in the arse as my fat 40gb PS3 is starting to run out of space (damn you GT5..). I haven't heard anything since this was posted so I was just wondering if the problems are still going on or should I wait a bit longer to upgrade my PS3?

It may be worthwhile waiting until the next update to see if the issue gets fixed. At present, and from what I am aware the issue is still there.

Loads of users in the same boat as yourself, will probably have something to do with Hardware ID, update picks up say a 40GB version and the drive space is incorrect if the HDD has been upgraded and it is kicking / rejecting the HD or upgrades.

This will most likely be a backlash from the PS3 getting hacked I should imagine.

That sucks, mind you nothings gonna stop me buying a 2.5" in a sale and waiting to install it when it's safe to do so

I currently have an original launch 60GB model with an upgraded hard drive and it hasn't bricked yet with any of the updates.

i got one of the 40gb ps3s, upgraded to a 320gb hdd aaaaaagges ago, and ive not had any issues with update

i upgraded my 80gb to a 500gb last year had no issues with mine at all.

I have also upgraded my HDD to 320gb and have never had any issues.

I updated mine to a 200gb yesterday and since the ps3 has crashed twice on startup, twice whilst on the store and once playing a game for an hour. I've bought a replacement WD Scorpio Blue to see whether it was the HD but seeing this first might have helped
