Hey,
I'm thinking about buying a Wii. But can you also play normal games? Because it seems like fun to wave around the controller when you are playing with many people but I don't like it being a requirement.

thats the fun part of wii. you get to exercise while playing the game.
Resident Evil 4 for the Wii was an example of using the control system to it's most. It certainly wasn't about swinging the remote wildly (much), but it really made the game combining point and shoot with running around on the nunchuck stick.
To be honest you didn't even have to stand up for Wii Sports, so I wouldn't worry too much. The party games are mostly about flailing, but there's plenty of others to choose from.
Some physical exertion is fun but there are loads of games that use the Wii-motes as static controls, an old but still excellent example is Super Smash Brawl
Make sure you get a Wii later on this year. They're releasing a newer version of it without Gamecube compatibilty but i think it's been redesigned ever so slightly to suit the horizontal position that everyone uses.
I am not a user of Wii nor a Kinect or PS3 Move.
But I reckon Kinect would be a better choice.
Then again it would be best for you to check which console provides the type of games you prefer and take into account ur budget.
Buying a wii is cheap now and most probably go more cheaper in few months time, some games can be played using control pads but most people use wii motion.
A lot of games require controller swinging only when necessary, and I believe you can turn this off with some too. But still with it on it is really not much and isn't tiring at all.
Mine gets more use for the GC emulation tbh...
There are some games which use the motion to get effect though, I liked Metroid other M for the controls. hold the controller horizontally for normal play and point at screen to switch to a first person view.

Eventually you manage to find a lazier way of holding the controllers. You don't really need to stand up either.
Some games like the new Super Mario Bros. Games use the controller sideways like an old Nes Pad. All depends on the game.
