    Anyone expecting a next-gen Xbox at E3?

I know the rumours have been denied, but is anyone going to be looking for the next xbox at E3 on monday?

I think the next generation is long overdue and there's been so many rumours lately about developers working on next-gen games, it's certain that they're in development and probably due for release late next year but the question is when will they be announced?

If memory serves me right, there's usually 2 E3 press conferences between announcement and release of a console so it all adds up. What does everyone else think?

Re: Anyone expecting a next-gen Xbox at E3?

I think it's unlikely. Next generation engines that are designed to match the console lifecycle (Unreal Engine 4 for example) are only just getting previewed. My understanding is that hardly any of the dev studios have access to it - certainly none of the ones I know.

Sure, nothing to stop studios using their own - but they still need additional time to get used to a new system. There has also been nothing AFAIK in terms of actual leaks of information about the dev-kits, which almost always happen once studios have them.

That means it would be very hard to have games on launch, assuming the usual 6/7 month-ish announce to availability in the US.

    Not hopeful myself.

Re: Anyone expecting a next-gen Xbox at E3?

That seems to be a common thought at the moment, but then again Unreal 4 is built specifically for the next gen consoles (to the point where it won't be supported on the Wii U), they must have some idea as to what to expect. If we look at what Microsoft did with KINECT, the E3 announcement coincided with developers getting their DEV kids and then a year later the release date was revealed - it's not unthinkable that Microsoft may do a similar thing with the currently-may-as-well-call-it-the Xbox 720. 18months isn't unthinkable as a development time frame for some release titles, especially if some are ports of existing titles (i.e. the next COD) with perhaps better visuals. then again, 18months is certainly the bare minimum it takes these days and that's for a current-generation system.

Microsoft have absolutely no reason to release the "720" any time soon.

The 360 and kinnect still has no credible competition as it is so they'll keep letting them sell and sell and sell.

I believe the next console is more likely to appear from a unusual source.

I'm more interested to see where the VALVe console rumours are going.
I'm not an XBOX hater, I just think VALVe would be better at managing the network infrastructure. Plus Steam is free, Live isn't.

XBOX 720 + Steam would be nice though...

+1 to that. Valvebox + Linux + HL2 Ep 3 as the launch title.

Re: Anyone expecting a next-gen Xbox at E3?

I think we're more likely to get a Half Life 3 announcement in all honesty. I'm quite happy at that, I'd like to see this console generation evolve a little more before the jump to the next gen happens plus I'd like a little more than "oooh look, shinier graphics" next time round too, I'm quite happy with the quality I'm getting now if truth be told even if PC titles are starting to make current consoles show their age in that department.

I believe we will have to wait at least a couple of years before we get xbox720.
    The same with ps4.

Re: Anyone expecting a next-gen Xbox at E3?

I'll be surprised if an announcement isn't made in the next 12 months. In fact, I'd expect it before E3 next year and then there to be a big E3 blowout.

I hope so. These boxes we've got now are over 5 years old!

Re: Anyone expecting a next-gen Xbox at E3?

I'd say they will be announcing the next XBOX @ E3 2013 for a late 2013 release.
The system is just too old now. I'm amazed devs are still coming up with decent looking games. Hope that doesn't mean no new system for a while yet.

Yeh I certainly think that it will be revealed at E3, with Nov/Dec release more than likely
