Just spotted that Amazon are taking pre-orders for the Xbox One - for the bargain price of £599.99 !!
Is this general knowledge? That seems incredibly expensive to me!

When no official price has been released, holding prices like this are pure conjecture.
What Amazon will be doing is advertising at above what they think it will retail for to cover themselves. If they were to list it at £299 (for example) and it ended up being £399 they would need to spend time contacting those that have places pre-orders asking them if they still want it at the higher price. Much easier to hook people in at the higher price then actually sell it for less.
You will see this with just about everything, especially high profile like new consoles.

Well Zavvi.com are taking a bet on the price with a pre-order price promise.
More details
Interesting idea tbh, promising a maximum price of £399 but also will reduce the cost if it comes out lower

Ok, phew!
Had no idea retailers did this - can you tell I'm not normally a console buyer?! That zavvi price is very interesting though, could be a big risk for them if that's the guaranteed maximum price. Or do they know something we don't know...?

With Zavvi being a smaller store, they have less of a risk. Also, it could be that they have seen the Amazon price and advertised theirs at a level they have taken a gamble will make them money, but also win them custom from the book giant.
There is also the fact that we all know that if you order from Zavvi its anyones guess when it will actually get delivered lol

Weirdly, the price has now dropped.... by £10. Why??

I was thinking the same. But that explanation clears things up
that price would be crazy! If the previous two consoles were around £300 at launch hopefully it won't be too much more.
Pre-order price has also been set at OCUK too... payment taken instantly and then difference refunded at launch. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CO-113-MS

OCUK @ £589.99 is a large amount of money to cough up just to get money back later :/ I'll stick with Zavvi's £399 with no deposit up front

Or do the sensible thing and wait until they have been released and reviewed, then give it a further month or 3 to make sure they don't burn themselves into the ground. By which time the prices will have started to stabilise.
To be honest, save yourself the full amount and don't get one at all!
If your thinking of buying, the £400 deal seems a winner......especially considering the (I hope!) laughable OcUK price...
I am actually considering one just because of the amount of exclusives.....

OCUK lowered the price down to £300 deposit now after a lot of forum complaints...
