Re: Connecting ps3 to pc monitor
Long story short, you can't.
That's a VGA port and the PS3 doesn't support VGA cables - only HDMI, whcih can be converted to a DVI connection (which works fine).
As for sound, if you do connect to a PC monitor, generally, you have to use separate speakers too which you connect to with the standard AV cable that comes with the PS3.
Edit: i see you say your monitor has speakers. Neither VGA or DVI (DVI for the most part) support sound so you would still need separate speakers anyway unless using a HDMI cable.
Re: Connecting ps3 to pc monitor

Pretty much, it would seem.
Re: Connecting ps3 to pc monitor
yep it suck, I had the exact same problem with mine. The only way is to get a monitor with hdcp support :s
Re: Connecting ps3 to pc monitor
You'll need to either replace your monitor with one with an HDMI port
or
replace your console with an Xbox 360, and buy a (supported) VGA cable for it, which can connect to your existing monitor
or
buy an unofficial third party PS3 VGA cable, whose quality is far from guaranteed (i.e. you may be lucky to get a picture at all, let alone one in HD)
Re: Connecting ps3 to pc monitor
TBH getting a new monitor is probably the best option, you can get fairly decent 1080p ones for about £150 that have hdmi and dvi so you can have your pc and ps3 plugged in at the same time. I got an Asus one and never looked back :p
Re: Connecting ps3 to pc monitor
