XBOX One @ 1440p?

I plan on getting a 1440p monitor as prices are coming way down, finally. However, I have a question. Can you run the XBOX One at 1440p? Or, could you run it at 720p on a 1440p monitor (as that won't give you any weird scaling problems).

Not without it, or your monitor, scaling the output. Games run at 1080p or lower.

That should be doable just fine, 720p is a supported output resolution.. I'm not sure it would be better than 1080p scaled though.

I've tried playing 900p scaled to 1080p through my monitor on my 360 and it looks bad - worse than when it's scaled to native (1080). It's mainly the text that looks bad, but there are some anomalies when playing games.

Just wasn't sure if the XBOX would force the native res which isn't possible on the XBOX.

Would have to be the monitor scaling as hdmi won't handle 1440p

I thought you needed two HDMI outputs to get that. Maybe we're both confused.

I stand corrected, it does support the higher resolutions but at crappy refresh rates.

According to wikipedia, just one HDMI cable for 4K 30 Hz http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Version_1.4

I think for some early 4K monitors you needed to use 2 HDMI cables as they were 2 separate screens (don't quote me on this).

I think you're right about that, iirc that was the reason nVidia updated their drivers to allow multi monitor support with a single card. Things make more sense to me now.

Simple answer is, yes it will work but the image quality will be entirely at the mercy of your monitor's upscaling algorithms.

It will look better than running at 720p. It will quite probably look decent. It won't* however look as crisp as running 1080p on a native 1080p monitor.

* unless you monitor is exceptional at upscaling, which some are.

Don't know, run at 1080p here into a plasma tv.

Upscaling is never going to be 100% as good as native. I take it you want 1440p for Windows work? How much Xbox will you play compared to desktop? You're going to have to sacrifice one or the other IMHO.

I'll be using Mac over Windows other than for gaming. I've truly had enough of buggy windows.
