newbie question - connecting ps3 to pc monitor
hi
I've been trying to educate myself about connecting my monitor to a ps3. i've been redecorating and really dont want a tv either up on the wall ( dont use it apart from gaming) or getting in the way in general.
i'm a bit confused and the info i've seen online isnt meaning much to me. My PC monitor is a 22en33sa. (LG) From what i've seen the monitor has to be a HDCP compliant DVI monitor. I've found some specs online but nothing that gives me an idea if it'd be compatible. There's no HDMI connection, just D-Sub.
It looks like if my monitor was compatible all i'd need is an HDMI to DVI converter and some sort of sound input but I'm stuck at the first hurdle! any guidance would be appreciated :)
Re: newbie question - connecting ps3 to pc monitor
Cut DVI and HDCP out of the picture because your monitor only has a VGA input and VGA cannot carry HDCP. You don't need either DVI or HDCP to connect a PS3 to your VGA monitor, but the lack of HDCP means no Blu-ray movies, games will work however.
Otherwise, it's quite simple and all you need is an HDMI to VGA converter - which will sort your video out.
As for the audio, you have three options;
1) Use the analogue audio output from the PS3 multi-AV out
2) Use the optical out
3) Use an HDMI-VGA adapter with audio support - usually a 3.5mm jack or L/R RCA jacks
