Twin Tuner PVR with Samba access?

    Hello,

I have been having a poke around on the internet but have failed to find what I am looking for. I was wondering if anyone here knows of a product.

I would like a standalone PVR that can do / has the following:

    Twin DVB Tuners
    Wifi or Ethernet Connection
SAMBA Access to stream media files from existing server
Ability to play Divx, Xvid, Vob, etc
FTP (or other) Access to recorded files (Files recorded in Non proprietary format, or easily converted)
Web accessible Schedule so I can set things to record remotely

Am I living in cloud cukoo land or does something like this exist? I liked the look of some of the Topfield's but it didn't seem that any of them had Samba ability. Although if there is a home brew firmware that can do the job that would be great.

I'd rather not get into the realms of building an HTPC as I really need the scart connectors to link it to the TV I want to use.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I'm sorry but I can't recommend any consumer products that will do all that. There may be something out there but I don't know of it.

However, why not look into building your own HTPC setup and putting MythTV on there? It's Linux based and, with enough tweaking, can do everything you want. It won't be the cheapest or easiest route though.

with the HTPC route, you could use a VGA to composite adaptor to achieve the scart out.

Consider getting a Mac Mini and install Front Row. Then you should buy a piece of hardware called eye.

Should do everything you need and more

Thanks for the responses. I was pretty sure that if something like this already existed I'd have heard about it.

I'd love to set up a MythTV system but my Linux skills are non existant so I know it would be a hard slog. I got Knoppmyth running as a test once but that was using an old PCI analogue TV card. I know it gets a bit more problematic with the modern digital tuners. It would be great to have a backend server doing the recording and having lowend dumb(ish) terminals for play back on the other computers..... maybe it's time to take the plunge and get up to my elbows in kernel.

I like the look of the Mac Mini's but I personally think they are bloody expensive for what you are getting. Definately worth a thought though as the size is great. A little warey about USB TV Tuners though, but I haven't checked out what the eye is.

All in all if I want exactly what I want in a consumer box, atm it ain't happening. So I either need to lower my expectations or home brew it up.

Topfield has a new model which more or less satisfies your needs but it has only DVB S and not DVBT

    Give mythtv another go!

I'm playing with it at the moment - works a treat with Nova-T digi pci cards, see:

Going to give it a go with a Pundit P1-AH2 in the lounge soon.
