Still looking for HD media streamers, Philips SLM5500 any good ?

I sent my D-Link DSM-520 back and have now been fully refunded (Thanks Komplett), but I still fancy a streamer of some sort - pref one which will play HD movies over a wired network.

The new Philips SLM5500 has some excellent reviews, just wondering if anyone has actually streamed any proper HD stuff - maybe 1080p or WMV9 ?

My fallback at the moment is the Freecom/Mediagate kit, into which I will add my own HDD. I have been (reliably?) told that this one will stream HD content properly from the internal HDD, which doesn't depend on network speed.

    Comments ??
    Cheers, David

    What about this?

It's new hence the fact that I can't seem to find a half decent review. I am in the same boat with the streamer, was thinking about a second hand x-box 360 until I found out you have to go through a whole performance to play divx files...

The best media player/streamer I've used is XBMC on a chipped XBox - nothing comes close to useability. Unfortunately it can struggle a bit with HD material. This PMS box is quite highly regarded:-

They also have a quite a useful user forum for any questions.

What about the Apple TV system? It's a touch pricey but looks the business. I need something to stream my HD video from my PC with optical out for my 5.1 amp.

Oops, guess I will be stearing well clear of the Apple...

Why is it people like Apple, Sony and Microsoft try make it sooo difficult to play other formats on their systems. 360 with it's media centre extender, Apple with the Apple TV and Sony with the silly video formats on the PSP...
