active subwoofer
I have a Toshiba WS tv, with surround sound speakers front and rear.
There is an active subwoofer (Acoustic Solutions) on sale at Argos and my question is, can I use one in addition to my 4 speakers, by connecting it in series with one of the pairs?
The tv has a subwoofer built in AFAIK

depends......
Some active subs let you connect speaker outputs to them, filtering off the low end stuff for the sub, sending the rest to the speakers.
You got a DVD player with a sub out? at least you'll have sub for films!

Buy a cheaper A/V Receiver and connect it all through that.
Better sound and all the connectivity u need.

Thanks guys,
I will have to go and find out the detailed specs.

Could I adapt a car subwoofer for use in a home DVD/TV seup then?
I would need a crossover filter and a power supply, it's already in a MDF box, but how would it connect to the TV speaker leads?
Anybody got any ideas?

Your TV will need to have a dedicated subwoofer output that you can connect into the line in on your subwoofer amplifier.

I have an active sub thats running on the sub channel on my decoder, but if you dont have a sub channel you can put the front L+R through it and it strips off the low frequency stuff using an adjustable cross over. Some people use his system to make 6.2 or 7.2, they add a sub to the rear as well as having one on the sub channel, or at least I think thast how it works. On a dolby 5.1 setup there is an indevidual channel for the sub, you wouldnt get this if its running off the fronts.

Thanks guys for your replies.
I have got a Acoustic Solutions Active Sub & spkr kit from a local retailer at a good price, and with a bit of SCART switching, will be using that hopefully.
