Discounted Photoshop CS3 Extended
Anyone else get Amature Photographer?
I do from time to time and noticed the photography and didital imaging courses they run.

They are either £249 or £299. You get a load of course materials and some discounts, including Photoshop CS3 Extended for a diminutive £217.37. Compaired to £887.12 direct from Adobe.
Total price is as low as £468.37. Now thats a bargain if you ask me.
Oh, and you get to learn something as well if you want to :)
Re: Discounted Photoshop CS3 Extended
That's quite good. Might need to start saving up now. Almost brings it into the range of affordability.

If you're a student you can get the whole suite for £249

Very true, but let's face it, the vast majority of photographers will never make a penny from their hobby. I know I fall into the group who think they've got a decent eye but would fail miserably at any attempt to go pro.
Re: Discounted Photoshop CS3 Extended
thats why Adobe introduced Elements for the hobbiest ;)

Come on, PS Elements is for someone who just wants to get rid of red-eye. There's a very large market of non-professionals who want 'professional' results and have the knowledge of how to get them, but haven't generated the skills to perform that on a production-line, and probably don't want to.
If Adobe only sold Photoshop at full-price to those who were using it to make money, then they'd be making a third or less of their current income. I think the amateur market is vital to its success.
Re: Discounted Photoshop CS3 Extended
Elements is pretty good these days.. most of the advanced options are missing, but everything needed to tweek photographs is there - there's a way around lack of curves
Re: Discounted Photoshop CS3 Extended
so, how exactly do adobe know pictures that were done in the full version vs the student version, because if they do know, then there has got to be some serious privacy issues there....
Re: Discounted Photoshop CS3 Extended
It's all in the license agreement. Other than an agreement you accepted when you installed the software, there is nothing to stop you from using a student copy for profesional means.
However if you were audited, you could be fined. If you are running a business this could have a devastating effect.
Re: Discounted Photoshop CS3 Extended
for somebody just doing it as a hobby and selling the odd photo, not as their main source of income surly its ok?
Re: Discounted Photoshop CS3 Extended
I don't know what the EULA states, but no, probably not.

well when Photoshop saves a file, it writes that it made that file within the image, so all you have to do is open up the file and take a look ;)
as for owning a student copy and making money from it.. well if Adobe cba, they look on where you're selling see your name/business - look it up on their database, oops ur registered as a student - bam
