    HDMI pass through?

Thinking about buying a new AMP - Onkyo - TX-SR505E, Classic Hi-Fi & Home Cinema It's got a 5 star award in What Hi-Fi and looks to do everything possible.

Got a quick question about HDMI pass through. I've only got one HDMI input port on my LCD and run Sky HD straight into it but I want to get a PS3 and also use a HDMI connection (A problem due to the single input!)

The description on the Amp shows
    HDMI Pass-Thru (1080p Compatible; 2 Inputs and 1 Output)*
does this mean I could run both HDMI cables into the AMP and then one cable into the LCD?

    Re: HDMI pass through?

Simple answer to your first question is yes.

However the 605 will upconvert most of the other inputs to HDMI, meaning you will only need to use the one lead to input to the TV.

Onkyo stuff is superb. I have the 674 and it is a superb amp!

The 605 has 3 HDMI ins as well, leaves you another spare port if you decide to go HDDVD too.

And to your question, yes you can.

Yep. You need to get the 705 for another couple of hundred quid for 3 inputs.

I think my main reason to upgrade will be when one of the hi-def formats wins and I end up needing more than 2 hdmi inputs.

"pass through" suggests only hdmi devices will work through hdmi - the 605 will upscale any input via hdmi (e.g. i have an hdmi-enabled super nes by plugging it through my 605)

    Sorry to hi-jack

But if you've got one of these, i've been eyeing them up, my Pioneer dosen't upscale you see, so when using the Wii's emulation, it is sending 480i or something horrid, up my HDMI, which my TV can't display. Forcing me to use component and run an extra cable to the TV.

Do they upscale any source to 1080p?

It doesn't upscale, only upconvert to hdmi. It will still pass through the HDMI at whatever resolution the original source was.

    Re: HDMI pass through?

Another quick question whilst we are talking about this does anyone know of any decent 5.1 speaks in the region of £300 - £400 that I could link up to this Amp?

While I cannot recommend you a specific set, I think that its best to get second hand ones from AV Forums buy/sell section - you will get much better quality speakers that way!
