    Which HDMI Cables?

So on Analogue stuff I don't mind paying more for a higher quality cable - but with HDMI being totally digital I am not sure it is worth it unless I am running it a long distance.

Anyhow - I am looking for 3 cables all around 1 maybe 1.5m long...

    Advice?

    Re: Which HDMI Cables?

Hmmm, is this a trap ?

For 1.5m just buy something from somewhere semi-reputable.

The really cheap ones (eBay and the like) occasionally have HDCP problems and shoddy connectors which like to fall out of the telly, but other than that... pretty much anything.

    Re: Which HDMI Cables?

It will either work, or it won't. If it don't work, its broken.

Buy any cable the correct length, and provided its not faulty you will be fine.
It either arrives as the correct 1 or 0 at the other end being digital, or it doesn't

There is a good thread about it somewhere on here, I'm just looking for it

    Re: Which HDMI Cables?

That one on Play is poorer quality than it looks in that pic, it is basically a cheapy. It does the job perfectly, but an even cheaper one will do it just as well.

I had one and it was palmed off to a mate as it has a sort of sheath around the actual cable, seemingly purely for cosmetic effect, which is basically a fairly inflexible plastic tube, which makes keeping the cables neat a bit of a pain. I think it's only there to make it look like a more expensive cable.

If you want to spend that sort of money maybe get something from Mark Grant, although it won't improve your pic, it'll at least last a while !

    Re: Which HDMI Cables?

I have no difficulty with 4 HDMI cables between 3 to 5m in length, doing 1080p, all next to each other.

    (ps3,pc,sky HD,xbox 360/wii (re-encoded by reciver)

I used ONLY the cheapest cables i could find, without wasting time searching for them too much.

My £5 Lidl ones were great and no different in pic quality to a £60 Chord one that I picked up (not for £60 )

    Re: Which HDMI Cables?

I bought a £5 cable from these guys and it's fine:

HDMI cables and DVI cables all at Fantastic Prices and Free Shipping

The Premium N range were recommended somewhere (can't remember, but sure I got the link from here).

    Hope that helps

    QED QUNEX HDMI-P Cable 1m - FutureShop.co.uk

i got three of these leads for my kit and can highly reccommend them. I know people say you notice no difference but i can tell you that you do.

When i got my toshiba hd-e1 hd-dvd player it can with a hdmi lead. When comparing it to the new QED lead i can tell you that the picture is a lot crisper.

This is from my own expierience. My advice is go to a audio visual shop and ask for a demonstration and you will see for yourself.

The best test is a fast moving action seen on blu-ray at 1080p. You will notice a huge difference between the two (1 being a quality lead and the other being a cheap one)

    Good luck

I never bothered with cheap HDMI cables, i went straight to the QED one. But my past experience of cables has shown that buying cheap after having spent many hundreds/thousands on equipment is pretty much false economy. I've done many comparisons of cables, be it speaker or interconnect, i know where i'd rather spend money. Why spend £1k on a great screen, but be too cheap to spend anything more than £5 to connect to it?

Exactly true. My entire kit cost me well over £3000. But like i said i did try the cheap cables before i splashed out and i could tell a huge difference.

So i went and spent £100 on qed speaker cables and £150 on qed hdmi leads. I was also lucky enough to win a bid on ebay for a 3meter Qed hdmi to dvi lead for my computer to lcd screen for only £18!!! It was alot more expensive everywhere else

But like i said david. Dgo to a shop and look for yourself. That way you will be able to tell before you splash out.

see that HDMI logo? that means "this is an HDMI cable". which means it meets certain minimum data transmission requirements.

HDMI signals are computer data. there is no physical way for a picture to be better with one cable than another, unless one of the cables is broken - in which case the effect will be MPEG macroblocking or sound jumping

    Re: Which HDMI Cables?

Like i said, from having checked them both i noticed a better picture on the miore expensive lead. As did everyone else i asked to check as well without telling them which lead was which.

I also noticed a big improvement in my sound when i changed them leads as well.
