    Question Hackers

Did anyone see this on Channel 4 the other night? What did you think of it?

Obviously watching it now it's a cheese-fest, but when you consider it was made in 1995, when Windows 95 wasn't out / only just out, compters cost over £2000, and the internet was something most people weren't aware of. One computer per household if you were really lucky, a games console and a calculator for most people.

I think this film is cheese now because it's aged so badly, and all films based on a fast moving technology always will age badly.

Oh, and Angelina Jolie looks strange with short hair. It's got a pretty good soundtrack though.

Soundtrack was good, (Leftfield in the clubbing scene was a high point) but dodgy plot and even I could see how simplistic the 'hacking' was.

It's hard to do a technically complicated film like this for the masses though, anything much deeper (hacking wise) would have cut off the vast majority of the audience.

totally! I learned in media studies the other day that you should never put something on film that will age. Technology is a prime example.

Films like this and Antitrust (with Ryan Phillipe) will age even more!

I missed it the other night, maybe this was a good thing because I remember it being quite a good film and if I was to rewatch it, it would prolly ruin it the memory for me.

The bit where they were getting (over?) excited about a 28.8 modem.

Aye that was class. 4 people huddled around a laptop getting a boner off a 28.8k modem and an active matrix TFT display.

Trash, it has aged extremely badly I'm sad to say. If you saw it in 1995 or shotly after then try and live off the memories, as watching it now will just make you think that it was a pile of poop.

Basically, nobody could get away with releasing this now. But if I put my mind in a 1995 state while I watch it, and totally forget any knowledge of computers (like most people in 1995) then it's not a bad film.

lol it was so unrealistic like when they're hacking by going through 3d simulations, had some unintentional funny bits in though

Its aged badly, but then you'd laugh just as hard over a computer from 95 trying to compete with your current pc on any level.

Anyone seen hackers 2 - operation takedown?

It's not officially a sequel, it was dubbed Hackers 2 due to the sme sort of theme, other than that the fims aren't related.

    It's about Kevin Mitnick IIRC.
