    Toshiba 42x3030d

basically after doing alot of research, i have decided that i want the toshiba 42x3030d.
Now i was thinking of buying it from currys, which have it listed as £700, but seeing as i can get a 10% discount from there, it would come to £630.

My questions are firstly is this a good price?

Secondly, how long will it be around for, as i currently dont have much loose cash lying around seeing as i am a student, but if it was set to be off the line, and no longer available to buy, i could get the money. (i was thinking of not getting the tv till early july)?

Thirdly, does it play 24 progressive fps smoothly, as i have read mixed reviews. All of my 1080p media will be running off my pc, if that makes any difference.

Fourthly, is it really that bad having "VGA supported resolution at only 1366x768"? as i was thinking of getting a ps3, but im sure i can plug that in via hdmi. (is vga and composite [the red white and yellow plugs] the same signal just different connectors, so will i only get 1366x768 using the comosite)

Fifthly, what is the best way to make all the audio that comes off the pc, run on the home cinema system that i have sneakly stolen off my parents (pioneer xv-dv55)?

sorry for the ranty post, but a serious thank you to anyone who offers any help

    £630 is, yup
Secondly, how long will it be around for, as i currently dont have much loose cash lying around seeing as i am a student, but if it was set to be off the line, and no longer available to buy, i could get the money. (i was thinking of not getting the tv till early july)?
Not terribly sure, but it has been about for a year or so now.

If you've read mixed reviews, be wary. That said, some folk don't even notice improperly processed 24fps problems. Really depends on how the set does it. Some sets will show noticeable juddering, others very little.
Fourthly, is it really that bad having "VGA supported resolution at only 1366x768"?
Kinda. Depends if you have to use it really. Also depends if the set will scale it up, or show it bordered.

You say above that you're supplying 1080p media from a PC, you'd have to use DVI out on your PC and get a DVI-HDMI cable
as i was thinking of getting a ps3, but im sure i can plug that in via hdmi.
You can indeed, and it's the best way. If you bought a PS3 you could stream media to it from your PC. This would potentially save PC/TV connectivity problems !
(is vga and composite [the red white and yellow plugs] the same signal just different connectors, so will i only get 1366x768 using the comosite)
Nope, you won't even get that ! Composite is SD only I'm afraid, and should only be used when needs must. It's pretty much the worst way to carry a signal to a HDTV. Composite on a 1080 TV looks fairly awful.
Fifthly, what is the best way to make all the audio that comes off the pc, run on the home cinema system that i have sneakly stolen off my parents (pioneer xv-dv55)?
In most cases a digital audio cable, but you'd need to have a looky at your ouputs on PC, and inputs on the Pioneer

You're welcome, hope I've helped, any more questions, fire away !

    Re: Toshiba 42x3030d

thank you VERY much for taking the time to answer all my questions!

funny thing: i ordered the tv on the thursday, and then i checked the website, and it had completely vanished from it on the friday!
I think i may have just got the tv on the last day they were selling it!

anyways, its coming tomorrow so i will spend most of the day calibrating it to the same as some guys on avforums, then will see how 1080p movies look on it using my pc

    cant wait!

    Re: Toshiba 42x3030d

You're very welcome, sorry I didn't actually get the replies in prior to purchase

What 1080p source do you have on your PC ? Is it downloaded stuff or discs ?

Also, be a wee bit wary of setting it the same as others. I'm sure you know this, but other folks settings should only be used as a starting point, as most sets will differ a little in performace. What looks good on one set may look average on another, semingly identical, set. And all our eyes are different too !

I could never get good results from the suposed "ideal" settings with my telly !

Anyway, hope you enjoy it, and I look forward to your pics in the AV set-up thread

    Re: Toshiba 42x3030d

most of the sources off my pc are stuff off the internet, but most are full 1920x1080 or 1920x800 (which im guessing means its in widescreen)

Ye i know about how every set is different and how a 'perfectly calibrated tv is in the eye of the beholder' .. or is it beauty

will def be putting up pics soon

    thanks again

Component is green red and blue (video)

phono is red and white (audio)

    composite is yellow & phono

    IIRC that is right

Ah, Finlay beat me to it, I just took it he was right saying composite because of the colours of the plugs, which match up.

Anyway, r_j_k_p, hope you're enjoying it, I see you've already got the pics up, good man !

Any more thoughts on it, or are you still enjoying it ?!
