    Monster threaten Blue Jeans Cable

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted before now.

Monster cable have threatened Blue Jeans Cable with several Design Patents. However, Kurt Denke
Blue Jeans founder and president is a former litigation attourny and isn't taing this one lying down.

There has been quite a bit written about this all over the place, but Audioholics has a couple of pretty good write ups, including the full response by Kurt Denke.

The second one is a bit of a read, but very funny and well worth it

I hadnt seen anything about this as I havent really been buying cables for a while.

Monster cables have always seemed overpriced to me though

Re: Monster threaten Blue Jeans Cable

Well monster cables are one of my favourate con merchant companies. Yes sir, you *need* this £80 HDMI to get a good picture.

At least blue jeans try to justify it with a less obvious bull****, ie, the signal degrades because the standard is awful, and the conector falls out easily.

If anything, Blue Jeans has improved the connector and perhaps should license the improvement to Monster Cable - of course that has more to do with a real patent than a simple design patent.
    Good idea

Re: Monster threaten Blue Jeans Cable

Despite being a fan of premium audio cables up to a point (and no, I'm not looking for a lecture thanks, been there, done that here and elsewhere) I'd never spend a penny on any of Monsters range.

There's selling products with debatable benefits, and then there's Monster HDMI Cable Scam | Gizmo Republic

Also, the way they market their HDMI cables in Comet is shocking. The £45/55 cables seemingly only do 1080i. Then the £60 one and above do 1080p. You want one for a PS3 ? That'll be £70 then. And if you want "ultimate" performace that'll be £80.

And thats for short ones. £200 will get you a 6m ultimate Monster cable. I bought a 5m HDMI for £9 that will do exactly the same thing

Re: Monster threaten Blue Jeans Cable

    from hdmi.org:

    Q. How can I tell if a cable is an HDMI certified cable?

All HDMI products are required to be certified by the manufacturer as part of the HDMI Compliance Test Specification. However, there may be instances where cables bearing the HDMI logo are available but have not been properly tested. HDMI Licensing, LLC actively investigates these instances to ensure that the HDMI trademark is properly used in the market. We recommend that consumers buy their cables from a reputable source and a company that is trusted.

    Q. What is the difference between a “Standard” HDMI cable and a “High-Speed” HDMI cable?

Recently, HDMI Licensing, LLC announced that cables would be tested as Standard or High-Speed cables.

    * Standard (or “category 1”) cables have been tested to perform at speeds of 75Mhz, which is the equivalent of a 1080i signal.
    * High Speed (or “category 2”) cables have been tested to perform at speeds of 340Mhz, which is the highest bandwidth currently available over an HDMI cable and can successfully handle 1080p signals including those at increased color depths and/or increased refresh rates. High-Speed cables are also able to accommodate higher resolution displays, such as WQXGA cinema monitors (resolution of 2560 x 1600).

Basically, all HDMI cables should be certified as part of the licensing agreement, so if you buy a £10 cat 2 HDMI cable then there is no functional difference to the £80 Monster rip-off cable

Something which obviously escapes many a salesman
