can anybody point me in the direction towards a good, solid, reliable place to purchase a fish eye lens for a Canon EOS 400D??
I seem to have looked everywhere and I refuse to purchase one from {{{shudder}}} ebay...

Could try here, always good with me. A proper fisheye is pricey though, the other possibiltiy it getting a M42 fisheye (Zenitar) with a canon adaptor but that is an ebay job though
Sigma 8mm is a pretty decent bit of glass for the cash

thats the one i have... but you wont get a full circular picture on the 400d as it is an aps-c (cropped) sensor... you'll get images how i get them...
works well at gigs though:
trouble with fisheyes is they are very "one trick pony" type lenses, and you can overuse the effect... so its alot of outlay for a 1 trick toy.... but they are fun to play with

If you just want to play try a fisheye adaptor from ebay - it'll screw onto the front of an existing lens. This one:

apparantly fits 58mm threads - should cover your Canon kit lens. The quality will be pretty dire - squigy corners and CAs everywhere, but for 40quid you can try out fisheying pretty cheaply.

Also bear in mind there are two types of fish eye: Circular, Full-frame

mmh has a circular
if your looking for a reliable source on ebay - this seller is a must! http://stores.ebay.co.uk/FLASH-CAMERA

Seen this before. I really don't understand how the picture angle can be (significantly) more than 180degrees!
Clever optics apparently!

I'm sure. But how can it grab light from behind itself??!?
Don't. Under. Stand.

Thats no lens! Its a small moon...
I'm guessing it can do 220° by way of the lens being that bulbous it catches the rays of light that are beyond the front of the lens?
I'll photoshop it to make it a little clearer..
