2.1 Speakers with decent mid range
Hi All,
I am looking to do a cheap and cheerful upgrade to my Dad's new 40" Samsung TV. The sound is good for a TV, but has no low range.
I tried my old Logitech Z2s and they produced a better sound, but lacking in the mid range. This seems to be a feature of 2.1s, all tweat and bass.
Not looking to spend the earth, so an amp and speakers is out. I know a set of Z-4s will improve the sound, but if there is a better more balanced option I would like to know.
I have seen the Samsung ya-sbr510 soundbar as well, which looks nice, but no reviews talk about its characteristics. I would guess as a music based system it might have better balance.
I know neither of these are audiophile solutions, my Dad is not an Audiophile. I want to give him better sound if not what some of you might call good sound.
Re: 2.1 Speakers with decent mid range
Take a look at what richer sounds offer.
I would seriously consider an AV receiver, a couple of shelf speakers and a sub.
Its a few hundred quid but the difference in sound quality would be phenominal, plus you have the option of going for the full 5.1 or 7.1 later.
Re: 2.1 Speakers with decent mid range
Cheers for the advice, I would take it for myself.
However I addressed this setup in my original post, I know my parents and they didn't even consider seperate speakers till I plugged in the old Z2s. Spending hundreds isn't going to happen. I'm looking for a the pragmatic option here, if you have any 2.1 speakers sets you use I'd be interested to hear about them or other options around the £50-60 mark.
Not trying to be snarky, just trying to find out people's experiences of 2.1/2.0 systems.
Re: 2.1 Speakers with decent mid range
I have a Yamaha YSP-800 - great piece of kit with a range of inputs - optical, coax, rca - hooked up to my Samsung in the back room. Crystal clear sound for standard TV watching but great hooked up to the DVD as well.
Another option is the little Acoustic Energy Aego M. Little 2.1 set up with only a line-in input but great sound. A pal has one and its amazing for the money.
Re: 2.1 Speakers with decent mid range
On a bit more of a budget, but it is nice to hear that the Yamaha YSP-800 is good. I have a Yamaha TSS-10 setup at home and it is a lovely little system. I live in a masonette so daren't crank it full up.
Out of interest what do you make of the YA-SBR510?
Re: 2.1 Speakers with decent mid range
Acoustic Energy Aego M are fantastic 2.1 speakers. Have had a set myself for several yeas and off the back of them several family and friends have bought them. A quick internet seach for reviews will confirm how good they are.
These are the ones I mean:
Acoustic Energy Aego M
They also sell their seconds/refurbs through ebay.
I know this is them 'cos I bought a pair for a friend and collected them from their UK hq, which is 10 miles down the road from me :)
