Question Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Did anyone catch this film on BBC2 the other night?

I'd forgotten what a giggle it was to watch it, but one thing has been bothering me since it was on. Was it cut for TV or not?

On one hand you've got all those wonderful special effects such as the zombie with the flat head (and looking like one of the carry-on-screaming monsters) getting it from the helicopter rotor blades near the start of the movie. And exploding heads and body parts being torn/shot off like they had a one day sale on at the fake blood shop )

But on the other hand I thought there was a section missing from the film. After the "heroes" have successfully locked up the shopping mall doors the film seemed to jump to them walking along the upper level of the mall with wasted zombie bodies all around. I thought I remembered them actually hunting the zombies down from years ago.

Has anyone got the DVD handy to check?

I've got the theatrical cut, which is as you described. They drove around locking doors, then surveyed the damage from the first floor. Maybe you've seen the directors cut? (i havn't, so don't know)

what i didnt get from this film, is why they didnt just take the chopper and fly away anyway

instead of letting 2 of them die, and then flying off

    lol

because once they had the place secure they wouldn't have to wory about food or the zombies for years... so it was worth the risk in blocking off the doors and what-not.

if the raiders hadn't came by, they'd have been set. just a shame "wots-'is-name" had to die/turn whilst making the place secure.

    hmm...

the remake really didn't capture the fun of the original... and the typical hollywood remake "lets up the body-count and re-write the ending"

Hmmm.. I doubt this actually... The zombies in every zombie film I ever saw, once they get to the outskirts of a human "stronghold", they just hang around outside it trying to get in. So they would get upstairs and bang on the wall... Rather than walk out of the broken doors/windows.

What I loved best was the way the make-up ended around the ears and the normal skin showed so it looked like just the faces were zombiefied. LOL
