Nice log... I may have to have a chat with you on MSN one night regarding the server you have with all the storage as using my desktop PC as a storage device with over 5 Tb of space which is filled with various media files is not really ideal now my network setups changed quite a lot.

I had a fairly similar idea to that about a year ago, mainly because my desktop is in my room and leaving it on all night making a huge racket wasn't my idea of fun

De-clogging my desktop and freeing it from its server role is probably one of the most satisfying upgrades I've ever done.

Well like I said, I was working on that one

No problem lee, just give me a shout any time. Planning another update this weekend as I have nothing else on. Should get some photos of my server and desktop at least.

Re: [Project Log] Funkstars Digital Lifestyle

I keep meaning to get back in here and do a bunch of updates.

Also realised that the Hexus hosted images are only available when you are logged in, so it's pretty useless linking to it from my other forum sigs. I need to change that and move all the images to my own host.

I think I'm going to merge a few sections to give room for my car stuff as well as camera and video gear too

Re: [Project Log] Funkstars Digital Lifestyle

    Been following this.
Would be good to ssee some pictures.

Quick question though, if you don't mind.

Is your server just streaming music, movies etc/ sharing files around your network or does it do other stuff also?

It just seems like a hell of a lot of space..unless of course you have a hell of a lot of music and other stuff, in which case it would be unserstandable.

If only I had the space and money <3

Re: [Project Log] Funkstars Digital Lifestyle

Hey, I think you've added the pics of your white ikea shelves since I was last in here - they look very familiar

We've got them in the kitchen though: never thought about using some on my desk. I'll be re-doing the network shortly so I might have to think about those...

It is mainly just a large file store for general storage and streaming to any clients. However it does also do all the TV recording and management of the EPG for MediaPortal.

I have also used it for transcoding at times as there is a lovely quad code processor in there that doesn't get taxed all that much.

Heh if I had the space, I would get myself a little server/ PC or whatever and just store all my music on it and stuff that I generally dont need on my main PC.

Ahh well. Brother off to Uni soon, more space for me.

Seriously though. Can't wait for updates.

That is a serious server! Have you ever stuck a power monitor on it. What does it cost to run all those drives...
I really like the use of the case on its side. Looks a tidy job. My server certainly won't be up to that spec (but then I have one hell of a desktop machine as well )

No never stuck a power monitor on it. I'm kind of scared to do that, I don't want to know!! It does keep my study pretty warm though.

It isn't normally on its side, those photos are just from when I was taking shots of the inside. It is a complete nightmare to move, really heavy. It may well end up that way when I move house, who knows.
