What speakers for Denon 2809?

DB1 pair 2nd hand, about 300-350.
TB2 pair 2nd hand, about 400-450.
Sub - depends what you go for.
DB1 or TB2 centre about 200-250.

The difficulty is finding someone daft enough to sell them...

Yea mate I did I bought it all as a 5.1 package from peter tyson (who i highly reccommend). Its not a bad sub but its definetly the weakest in the set. But my room is small so I see no point in spending more. It does what it needs to do

I've got the option of acquiring a 7.0 set (so I'd need to add a sub) - so that isn't necessarily a problem

That said you may well find them cheaper, but be careful they're not single speakers!

Muahaha! I strike again.

They really are something very, very special. Reference speakers at their very best. At home in the studio or the living room as well which is very unusual for nearfield speakers. I've been using TB2's at work for post production for a long time now and whilst I was initially very unimpressed, over time I realised that I'd just accepted their brilliance as being 'normal'. Listening to other similar speakers leaves me just... cold. The imaging really is breathtaking, especially in a room which you would consider far too big for them. You can close your eyes and with well recorded material literally pick out where each instrument is.

The downside? Well there's the cost obviously, but they also need an amplifier which can do them justice. Most home cinema amps just aren't up to the job and you suddenly realise how bad these multichannel affairs actually are!

It's got Pre Outs, no? Buy a power amp or 5 and let the Onkyo do all the processing.

Right, got myself a fairly good deal on these:






So I'm happy. Fronts & Centres are Bi-Ampable (the 2809 supports this too ) and then the rears are fine as they don't do a huge amount.

That said, might end up going for inceiling rears (due to how close to the back of the room I'll be sitting) and use the 2 bookshelf speakers as a hifi in another room.
