Thats the main purpose right? to save time? if i can simply click one button that automatically process and re-touch my pics a bit then what's bad about that?

Dont forget, while all these programs can do a lot of stuff for you, it can never ever take a pic for you in the right settings and scene.

That was my problem really. I'm aware of retouching (jeez, only been taking pics for a couple of years), but you completely missed my point. The final example of the panorama particularly went far beyond what I'd consider acceptable processing. Show me one of those images and tell me you let the computer do it, you aren't a photographer, you're (at best) a digital artist. If you don't see a difference, I don't know what else to say.

I'm actually okay with the panorama edit - you've already shot the vast majority of it, and if you're doing a big panorama, there's a huge amount of editing/processing involved anyway. To get a nice square pano without cropping is nigh on impossible without some very expensive gear - specialist panning heads etc.

As long as you pressed the shutter button at some point and the result is pleasing, I really don't care how you got there.

Besides, unless you're going back to chemical film and manual focus prime lenses some will still consider anything digital a cheat..

Even with that you could still manipulate and/or fake half the image, it's just that it took longer and the tools were different.

Those shots aren't just cropped though, they're distorted to counter perspective. Doing that by hand is quite a pain and it's easier to just leave in the perspective, but if the program could automatically correct and stitch to end up with the example he starts with it'd be nice.

Thinking about it, I reckon that these must be some kind of April Fools joke.... take the first example, with the homework.... would it really be worth programming CS5 with all the mathematical formulae needed on the off chance that someone in their picture happened to have some equations, and that they happened to want to adjust something in that area of the picture, and they also wanted photoshop to keep the equations realistic? How much call would there really be for that?
