Recommend me Wireless Headphones for my desktop gaming :)
Morning all.
I'm currently using my daily in-ear headphones (which I also use for daily commute etc) when I'm on my PC, but feel that i could be getting something better.
Requirements:
Mainly will be used for gaming. I'm not interested in attempts to reproduce 7.1 surround sound, but if it gives a good spacial separation i'll be happy. Hearing when a bullet zips over my head in Battlefield will be good :)
Budget - Certainly under £100, under £50 is probably more realistic.
Audio fidelity - I listen to mp3's which tend to be encoded at around 200 kbps VBR, and a mixture of genres (R&B, Pop, Classical, soundtracks, some hard rock... no thrash metal or jungle though). The audio output is processed via Creative X-Fi (external USB device).
I would love a wireless set, and am quite smitten with the look / ease of use of this Sennheiser set. (Today Only, £77).
Edit: Sorry, one further thing. My desktop is less than 10 foot away from our living room settee, and when my wife wants to watch Eastenders and i'm gaming, i'll need headphones that dont leak too badly (or i'll get grumpy looks).
I'm thinking wireless since my current in-ear has quite a short lead and limits my chair rocking, but can imagine getting annoying with a really long cable getting tangled up ;)
Should I bite the bullet and buy that pair? Are there any others that warrant consideration?
(I live close to a Richer Sounds, and may wander in there to look too).
Edit 2: Well, a bit of googling shows that Amazon have the above set for £58.99 inc delivery, so that's looking good already. I'd still very much welcome opinions and experiences before buying.
Re: Recommend me Wireless Headphones for my desktop gaming :)
After some researching throughout today, i'm leaning towards this pair:
Sennheiser RS 160 £86 from Amazon.
They are 'closed back' to limit sound leaking (to my wife) :)
Also they use 'Kleer' technology to transmit the audio, which various sites describe as being significantly better than bluetooth or pretty much any other type of transmitting.
CNET review.
Pocket Lint review.
Going to think it though...

before buying take alook at 930 from logitech, expensive but my mate has them and there awesome
Re: Recommend me Wireless Headphones for my desktop gaming :)
Ok, in the end i popped in to Richer Sounds and bought the RS160's.
They cost me £99 in RS, rather than £87 from Amazon, but i figured that i didnt want to wait :)
First impressions - they come in that REALLY annoying sealed plastic which you have to hack with scissors and threatens to slice your hands in the process
I had to twist off each of the headphone covers to insert the rechargeable AAA batteries that come with it but the recommendation is that you spend the first 24 hours charging them to full :yucky:
So now they rest, sitting over my regular desktop speakers (one of my T40 SII's) charging.
The power splitter is quite cool though - from the plug socket, you get a Y shaped power splitter, similar in principle and appearance to audio splitters, one end plugs into the base station and the other end plugs in to the headphones directly.
For anyone interested, here in another review. The Register (Aug 2010).
I'll aim to post my own review over the next week or so.
