Which BluRay player ? SORTED pls close.

    as header....

    I ideally would like :

LAN, to play MKV mpg4 HD movies from my PC.

To play home burned DVD disks of MKV mpg4 movies

To play same from USB stick or USB HDD

7.1 or similar multi channel discrete audio outputs (my amp is not HDMI enabled, and I suspect the BR player decoder may be better than the Marantz SR5200)

Wireless would be nice, but LAN is fine otherwise

Looking at between 100 and 200 quid.

What say you good people ?

    Re: Which BluRay player ?

This may be completely useless but most new TVs can play MKV (1080p) and most file types straight from the USB slots on them. I didn't even know that my TV could when I bought it (Samsung LE32C580) and I use the USB feature quite a lot.

PS3 is actually a decent blu-ray player - if you use the controller since the bottom paddles are flappy putting the controller down can fast forward and stuff but you can get a remote for like £6 and it is just like a blu ray player but with internet, bbc iplayer, etc and can play games. It is really quiet as well. I'm not sure if you can get some sort of adapter to do surround sound.

... the PS3 can output surround over either HDMI (full spec) or over the Optical (TOSLINK) connection (16 bit PCM)... but one thing it can't do is transcode MKV.

Good buy on the Sammy 6500 - would be interested in knowing how successful you find streaming HD content to it over WiFi - never had any luck with my PS3

    Re: Which BluRay player ?

ps3 only has a g adaptor in it tho, which i personally found shocking after shelling out for a new slim one

An N class adaptor might have made all the difference

Violence and Lubrication is the solution to fixing everything, if it still doesn't work, you need more lubrication.
