    Post Kindle covers

Close family member asked me for advice on kindle covers.

I am getting one for my wife @ Christmas, but cover was going to be a present next year, or some other time, so I haven't looked into it yet.

    Any recommendations?

Someone at work said that having one with a light is good - is this worth it, or does it drastically alter the price?

    Re: Kindle covers

I was bought the official one as a present when I got my Kindle last Christmas. It's excellent and does a good job of protecting it.

It's really very expensive though and I'm sure someone could recommend one just as good for a cheaper price.

    Re: Kindle covers

I got a tecknet one off amazon for £9.99.

It's quite sturdy, and comfortable to use, although annoyingly, the clasp seems to be on the wrong way round...

    Re: Kindle covers

Amazon's own covers are well-made but disgracefully expensive. Perfectly functional covers can be picked up from anywhere from eBay to Tesco.

As for lights, well, you can't use a Kindle in an unlit environment, such as at night in bed, with a light as the device itself isn't backlit. You either need ambient light (such as daylight or room lights), or you need a light directly for the Kindle.

Amazon's lighted case powers itself from the Kindle, and as it's built-in to the case and battery-less, it a pretty neat solution. But, at £50, it ought to be.

My solution was a small clip-on LED light. It uses batteries but as it's LED, they seem to last for ages. It's not built-in, so I have to remember to carry it about, but it only cost about £1, so if it breaks, I can always just buy another one. If the light ion the £50+ Amazon cover breaks, are you going to want to fork out another £50?

As always, it's horses for courses. Some people will buy the Amazon case, with light or not, because it's "genuine". Me? I have a healthier regard for my own bank balance than that. But it's a value judgement, both ways.

Have two, a leather case and a silicon one. Silicon is great around the house, case for when it's inside a bag. Both around £4.

    Re: Kindle covers

I bought a TuffLuv Apocalypse black case, which is very nice. They retail for around £40 which imo is too much.

Managed to buy mine off ebay for £15 which is more like it.

As for a light, I just use a 'really tiny book light' which cost about a fiver.
