Tried to watch Pirates of the Caribean last night....

    ....was bored stoopid.

What a dull dull film. We managed 45 minutes and the ONLY bit that grabbed my attention was when the lass fell off the top of the cliff and as she hit the water, her Pirate pendantt sent a shock wave out...

had me hooked for 5 minutes....then I got bored again.

Looked at Sair...she looked at me....

    I hit eject.

    What a sack

And to make matters worse, the next film we watched we had no idea about and it was ACE

    Arnie in Eraser......with RAIL GUNS

Now I wqould NORMALLY love a good Piracte stylee film...my Buckle is permanently in need of Swashing...but Pirates was dull....

and yet Arnie had us hooked in less than 5 minutes.

Question is: DO we try Pirates again, or do I just give up?

Knox sent me loads of great films and Eraser was the first outta the box...what a cool cool fim

are you MAD?, you surely must have enjoyed the landing at the start of the film?. Its better on the big screen with an audience watching with the atmosphere but i love pirates of the carribean.

and if you've only watched the first 45 minutes, blimey watch the rest

I'm suprised you didn't think more of mr depp in the film.

when you realise that it was supposed to be a vehilce for Orlando bloom , but Johnny Depp totally stole it , then its just that little bit better.

when the boat sinks and he steps off the mast tip, onto the jetti?

I only giggled once through all the first 45 mniutes.

It was like a bad pantomime....too colourfull and yet trying to be a big film.

And worst...by far....Johnny Depps accent. Made my skin crawl.

Orlando was the only saving grace. His sword work, it seems , is equal in both Cutlas and Twin Blade eleven stylee

Seriously tho....I'm gonna take lots more convicing than that to watch it again....it was dull

    Other way around totally.....

    Orlando shone...Depp sucked

    Such a badly acted piece.

Wow, couldn't disagree more I think!

The film is very tongue-in-cheek, and Depp's "perpetually slightly tipsy" character was excellently played (he has done some slightly unusual roles superbly).

Orlando Bloom was very much the "straight man", with only 1 quip that I can recall, and I didn't feel the jokes (subtle or direct) were as cheesy as, say, anything in an Arnie film
(Don't get me wrong, I like Arnie films for pure, disposable fun, but the 1-liners make me cringe.)

Guess you'll not be waiting for the sequel with as much anticipation as me then

Pirates is a great film, give it another chance

Jonny Depp was critically aclaimed for the Jack Sparrow perfomance I think i have watched it about 4 or 5 times now since picking it up from asda for a tenner

    Its a real family film.

Surprised at the complete division here!

I'm on the side of Johnny Depp - it's a good film - cause he's in it, and really no other reason. He just steals the show completely - the rest of the film is just dull.
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

Well, I thought it was hilarious, provided you treat it as a pee-take from beginning to end. Mind you, if anyone watched Jack Sparrow step off the mast onto the dock and DIDN'T twig that it's just a tad tongue-in-cheek, then I suggest they contact their doctor to arrange a sense-of-humour transplant - urgently

Mind you, taste .... and especially sense of humour .... do vary dramatically. I can't stand the Simpsons yet people rave about it. Personally, I think it's one of the worst loads of utter drivel I've ever had the misfortune to encounter. It takes all sorts, I guess.

Did you turn it off before the pirates of the Black Pearl attacked then ?

Just a thought, as 1st time we tried to watch it my g/f fell asleep just as Jack got caught and locked up... in all honesty it is a bit slow to there, then all hell breaks loose.

Enjoyed pirates far more in the cinema than on dvd, still a good film but i have to be in the right mood to watch it again now. Eraser is a top notch film though, classic arnie especially the last 30/40mins

WHAT?? Orlando was a wet potato. He was crap. At least Depp can act. Its disney, its meant to be pantamine-esq. The CG is good too later on. I liked Depps unusual take on a flamboyant pirate, makes a change and he has a few comic moments in it too: "There'll be no livin' with her now" after she destroys the rum. Fat better in the cinema.

Saracen's got it right, cept the simpsons

Eraser is good the first time, then its just another boring action movie.
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!
