External Blu Ray drive for laptop?

Hi guys
Has anyone got any recommendations of an external Blu Ray USB 3 reader (and/or writer) for my laptop when travelling (and player software to go with it)?
I've replaced the internal DVD drive with a 1TB HDD and I'm rather partial to keeping it in there - but has anyone had any good experiences
Most of the USB3 models I've found have been desktop form factor, which is a bit too big to cart around in the laptop bag - so is there a real performance penalty to using USB2 for stuff like this? (I've never tried - so need to ask the silly questions like this)
I've got DisplayPort out (and an HDMI dongle) so the playout is covered - but I've heard time and time again that you do need software that supports playout over external HDMI
What do you suggest?
