    House of Flying Daggers

Just got back from seeing this.
If you liked Hero, you'll love it - despite being basically a love story.
Plenty of the usual gravity/laws of physics defying stunts, and beautifully filmed with Yimou Zhang's glorious eye for colour.
    And Zhang Ziyi Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

It was certainly better than Hero, still a little OTT and in places but had a much more interesting story. Not hugely original but still most enjoyable. You cna get the HK DVD for less than £7 at CD Wow, transfer isn't so good but it has a superb DTS track.

The Directors Cut is rumoured to be coming soon - I guess as soon as the cinema release has finished.
But Hero is only despised as a film if you use your Hollywood Head. There is no film - only 2 people telling stories to each other, which the other imagines. The cinematographer shows the audience what they imagined....

I thought Hero was a pretty good film. And I don't normally go for the subtitled stuff.

If it's in the same vein as Hero, but without the Hero ending, I'm sure I'll love it.

The production of House of Flying Daggers was a little rushed, there was supposed to be many more effects in it but they had to leave it out.

As for the actors/actresses, Zhang Zi Yi is absolutely brilliant in her role, playing such an innocent looking character.

I've never rated Andy Lau's acting, and it shows on the big screen, his facial expressions are too forced. Whilst Takeshi's role was rumoured to have written esp for him.

Anyone heard about Tarantino's movie? Apparently its gonna be a Martial Arts like shot entire in Mandarin with Chinese actors, with 2 versions, dubbed and subtitled.

<----- Never believed Zhang Ziyi was blind - cos she never sued the Flying Daggers for lack of disbled access
