    Earphones on a Treadmill...

    ... will they take off?

    Hello knowledgeable people of Hexus...

I'm currently making do with the headphones that came bundled with my HTC One when I go for a run on the treadmill. The trouble is, the cable is heavy (so each step feels like a thud) and the cables also appear to be minature stethoscopes (not as bad as the Jays headphones I had) so the cable noise is ridiculous.

The budget isn't too much of a big deal, but somewhere south of £50 unless they are so versatile that I'll want to use them all the time. I saw the SoundMagic E10s being recommended as a decent pair of budget headphones, but not specifically for running, and they also dont have an inline remote for skipping music...

As I'm only using the earphones on a treadmill, they can block out all the noise for all I care - when I run outside I don't use headphones as I know I'll end up getting run over

So... What do you guys use in the gym/for running, and what is good?

we are still waiting for our lemon soaked towelettes.

Return to your seat, return to your seat, return to your seat

Apologies if I you don't get the reference, but anyway, I would say just use the cheap disposable kind, gym stuff gets knackard quick.

If the cable is hitting you, maybe you could avoid letting it hit you, on the tread mill this could be as simple as putting it on the holder in the treat mill with a long enough cable.

    Re: Earphones on a Treadmill...

I don't run on treadmills as I hate them, but outside I just use some Apple Earpods that I picked up cheap. To stop the microphonics I just use a paperclip around the cable to my T-shirt collar while leaving a bit of free cable (some headphones even have clips on their cables for this). This works for me and doesn't really cost anything, so you've nothing to lose in trying it

EDIT: Oh dear, that plane taking off thread, I completely forgot about that going around the internet...

    Re: Earphones on a Treadmill...

Wow, Google indexes fast... I just tried to search that reference and this thread was the 2nd result.

I thread the headphone cable down my top, but there's still slack between the neck of my tshirt and my ears - it's this that flaps about/is noisy/irritating.

I've just remembered I have an old pair of iPhone earphones (non ear-bud ones) in my man drawer, I'll give them a bash tomorrow as the cable is much lighter, but the fit of the earphone isn't so great...

I had a set of sennheiser addidas earloopy efforts a while ago that were pretty good. I find running the cord down the back of your tshirt stops most of the noise. particularly if you clip it ot the collar

I used these for a bit:

    Philips SHQ4000 Sports Neckband

but I've recently started using AfterShokz Bluez. They're £100, but I reckon they're amazing for exercise, and I'm doing a fair bit of it....

    http://ferroustom.wordpress.com/2014...luez-a-review/

They work as a Bluetooth hands free kit too, and will fix the problem about being running over outside!

    Re: Earphones on a Treadmill...

So, 5k on the treadmill on Wednesday with the iPhone 5 headphones was pretty dire... There is no noise isolation so I had to crank up the volume and I could still hear the whirring of the belt plus they felt like they were going to come out but there was no cable noise... never again. Went back to my HTC headphones this evening; much better, but the cable noise was a pain.

@b0redom - my experience with the iPhone headphones makes me think I'll not enjoy any kind of headphone that don't bung up my ears and hide the noise of the treadmill from me.

Am wondering whether to just get a cheapish pair of cx300s for the gym (I used to have a pair of 500s but lost them), and then perhaps a nice pair for listening to music at work, I'll see what Amazon has to offer

Did you try paper-clipping the cable (with some slack) to your collar? That works for me.

I would not risk my £100 earphones on a treadmill. Get a pair of phillips bluetooth headphones. They are around £50 and prevent you getting your wires caught on anything.

    Re: Earphones on a Treadmill...

I had the issue once that i was using wired headphones on the treadmill and accidentally with my ape like arm managed to wack the cable and sent my smartphone flying inbetween my treadmill and the one next to mine. I had to get a assistant to help me lift the treadmill so i could find it. phone was ok.

after that bluetooth headphones all the way.

    i recommend these - http://www.7dayshop.com/7dayshop-blu...toZWFkcGhvbmVz

cheap but work treat. mine have lasted daily use for months without flaw. battery life is good too.

I second this, have been using the same model since Christmas for road and gym duties. I've got a large head so the hold tight and I no longer have to adjust the buds every few minutes.

My Mrs tried mine but hated them, her head doesn't have to accommodate as much grey matter and the bounced all over the place. That our she just doesn't suffer from bobble head syndrome like me

    Saw this yesterday: http://www.engadget.com/2014/06/16/e...dless-earbuds/

    Which lead to these: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...ear-headphones

I like the idea a lot. would need to see how they perform in real life first

Plus being a hardware kickstarter, you'd be lucky to see them in the first place

Thread is about running on a treadmill. Why would you have a treadmill in the woods??

Seriously though, I would be interested to see how well they do actually stay in your ears. They wouldn't have the wire which some have said in other places drags the buds out of their ears.
