Small budget TV, but needs a networking solution

Now that we are boxing up our DVDs and storing them out of the way, I'll need to replace the 14" CRT with built in DVD in my daughters bedroom.

I really don't want to spend much money, she is 6. She doesn't get to watch actual TV in her room (no aerial socket) but does like a "movie night" instead of a story at the weekend. Doesn't need to be fancy, doesn't need a full smart TV, but something with some kind of networking and DLNA support would be perfect. Alternatively I guess we could use one of the many DLNA wifi dongles you get now.

Any recommendations?

A wireless DLNA dongle would be a little cheaper, but how about a Raspberry Pi + wifi adaptor? Adds a bit more flexibility...

I want to keep it super simple for when I'm not at home.

A wireless DLNA dongle can be powered by a USB port which most TVs (even cheap ones) have and plug directly into the HDMI port so it's nice and tidy.

I'm actually starting to think a cheap monitor might be the way to go instead, that's really all it will be after all.

I wonder if Googles Chrome Cast would be useful? USB powered, HDMI and one click to send video to the TV.

Yeah 32" is a bit big for a 6 year old bedroom. And £300 is about three times what I wanted to spend

My niece & nephew (8&6) have something similar at their grans, and like the fact they can put dvds in themselves, I reckon they might find a dlna client easier to break (not to mention it means you maintaining a separate subnet for it so they can't see your library (I'd imagine a 6 year old accidentally putting on say walking dead might not be the best move).

Those now TV boxes are very good actually, even without plex sideloaded on. I just got one purely for the fact its cheaper to get the box deal than to get 5 sports passes.
I've stuck the box in my room and use my Xbox in the lounge.
Very impressive for the size.

That is a good point, I'll need to work out something to wall off the inappropriate stuff.
