Hitachi TV - Plusnet Internet - unable to connect

    Dear all,

I recently purchased a 40 inch Hitachi TV from Argos (model 40 HXT 16 U). It is internet compatible - requiring a WiFi dongle (I bought the dongle recommended by Argos).

My internet is provided by Plusnet. I (and my girlfriend) have no difficulties connecting our phones, laptops, iPad etc.

When I go to connect to the internet (Menu >> Connection Settings) I am able to see my Plusnet internet network and can get to the 'enter password' phase. However I am unable to progress beyond this point - I enter the password, it pauses, and then returns me back to the initial screen (connection settings).

I have tried disconnecting all other devices, resetting the internet etc. This seems to be quite a common failing. Have any readers had any success remedying this issue?

Did you type in your internet password or your wifi password? They can be different.

    Wrong type of encryption?

It might show the SSID, but if it only supports WEP or WPA, and youre set to WPA2, it wont work.

Try changing it to a different protocol, or none just to test it.

Re: Hitachi TV - Plusnet Internet - unable to connect

Have you looked at the Hitachi website to see if the dongle you bought is actually supported by the Tv. The fact that you can see the network tends to suggest that it is, but worth double checking. Otherwise ensure that you are using the correct case (if you are using a passphrase) and, as others have said, correct authentication/security methods, and the password is indeed the correct one (although you have connected other devices to the network, so that shouldn't be the issue.
