    Gaming Speakers

    Hello,

I am looking for some new PC gaming speakers I currently have the Logitech X 230. Which is almost 9 years old and is still working well but I feel its time to upgrade to something better. I have a budget of around £100.

I was just wondering if anyone on here can please recommend some?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Re: Gaming Speakers

I can second watercooled's opinion. I've got the earlier version, and I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality. Not just for gaming, but for music as well. Got a decent bass, but not too bassy like you can get from some .1 systems...

If you can find some, the Edifier Studio R1600T 2.0 speakers are utterly awesome on all levels.
They used to be about £60, but Eddie recently stopped making them.

    Re: Gaming Speakers

Welcome back chap! Remember your name from long ago!

Key to this subject is that speakers and amps haven't moved on like graphics cards and cpu power has

So it's possibly worth you considering keeping what you have and buying really good headphones instead

That way you have both public and private sound sorted and... If I'm honest... Headphones are better really for your budget

You can get some truly awesome headphones for £ 100

    They'll exceed all speakers

And your current speakers are not too shabby.... You've had them a long time! They must have done something right!

TBH I kind of skipped over the bit about them still working fine; I agree with Zak that there mightn't be anything wrong just sticking with what you have.

Whilst I totally appreciate what you're saying, I don't expect this to be the case for long. DSP technology and digital amps have come on in leaps and bounds. We're now starting to see the introduction of DSP control for individual drivers, dynamically altering the frequency response depending on speaker load etc. Whilst at the moment this technology is still in the realms of the high end, like all things it will start to trickle down to the more affordable range in time. There's some seriously cool stuff on the way for speakers.

    True.

    Take my ipad mini speakers.
They're tiny but at the right angle produce something acceptable and surprisingly full, I am sure there is some digital jiggery pokery going on.

That said. I'm not sure how much better you'd get for £100 than those logitechs. I used to have those, they aren't great for music but the sub helps out when gaming.
I swapped them for Audioengine a2 speakers, unfortunately they have appreciated in value quite substantially.
Those creatives will be better but I think we're still taking the same grade of audio, though compared to the logitechs you will lose a lot of bass, as they are quite small. The t40 would be a bit more substantial.

Bang for buck headphones provide higher audio quality at this range, (this is unsurprising as they require less materials), but it's a different experience.

Gaming audio has fallen by the wayside, ever since Vista got rid of the directx hardware sound it's a bit of a mess. Virtual surround used to be easy to get working, now it's pretty difficult as all the games run their own sound engines internally, and searching the web gives you conflicting advice about setting different speaker settings in games and windows.

    Re: Gaming Speakers

Will it trickle down though? I fear these kind of things stay for things above a certain price bracket - they'll only appear in budget sets if there's a compelling economic reason - perhaps being able to save even more money and putting cheap cones in in the knowedge a cheap as chips chip can correct for it.

I've lost count, but I third or maybe forth watercooled's opinion on the T20s.
