    Sony TV

I have this friend at work. He is Indian by nationality so English is rather bad (don't know why, been here for 20+years).

He has a Sony TV. Most likely 3D Smart from the EX series.

He asked me if I could transfers some of his old DVDs and VHS cassettes to digital so he could watch them. From an USB device. VHS is fine. The problem is the DVD. I thought smart TVs can play ANY format but not his TV. Made a few random samples with different containers and the TV seems to be able to play only MPEG4. Another pain. So I cut out from his old DVDs Hindi language to the movies. Seems fine. He would like to have subtitles as well. Turns out that Sony apparently doesn't support srt.

That was the last interaction with him because communication is very difficult.

My question is: in what format digital content must be for a Sony TV to be able to play it (inc subtitles, not embedded if possible)?

    Re: Sony TV

Sony do not support subtitles on their smart tv steaming.

Main solution at the moment is to use a media streamer (like Mezzmo) that burns the subs into the video.
