    Entry level 4K TV - 40"-43" - £500 Budget

    Hey guys,

Looks like I'm joining the masses with another 4K TV question

I'm looking for a smaller sized set to be used in the bedroom, the sapce is limited to a 43" TV and ideally I would like it to be wall mounted.

Since it's just for a bedroom I'm not looking to blow my brains out and drop £1000 on the set, ideally I would like to keep it under £500 and get the best quality/feature set available in this price bracket.

I've had a quick search on google and the likes of Philips 43PUS6401 (£399 - Argos) or the LG 43UH620V (£449 - Currys) caught my eye but I thought I would come and ask the experts first before making a final decision

I will be upgrading from an almost 10 year old Philips 32" TV so almost anything by today's standards will be far superior

    Thanks in advance,
    Rookie

Check Richer Sounds, they've got some good offers at present.

Samsung UE40KU6400 for under £500. Has HDR, which is good for that price.

IIRC Philips have come out quite badly in reliability surveys for newer TVs. I'd also recommend Richer Sounds - it's worth checking your local store for bargains (mine had a refurb Samsung 4k 40" for £339 last time I looked) - they're about the only store where the extended warranties are actually worth buying too (6 years for free on many TVs I think).

Do you really need 4k on a 40 inch TV? If not, the Samsung K5500 sells for about £350. It's 1080p. The KU6000 costs around £400 and is 4k. Better still is the KU6400, but that's pushing towards £500. Depends what you want it for really.

Picked up a Samsung UE40KU6020 (4k 40") from Richer Sounds last week (with 6yr warranty) for £350. Others were getting it for as little as £279 apparently looking at the comments on hotukdeals... Results are pretty good as a display, but it's doing some unwanted processing, or maybe 4:2:2 chroma, which is strange as it states it can do 4:4:4 in the manual, but I've not tried driving it via HDMI 2.0 yet - just lower refresh rates with HDMI 1.4...

It should be capable of 4:4:4, the KU6000 is.

Many Samsung TVs do require you to rename that input to PC to enable some of that stuff though.

Could anyone with one of these 6xxx sammy 4k HDR models comment on any input lag and/or gaming experiences with them please?

I believe all the UH and UN models from Samsunbg are pretty low on their Gaming modes - 19 to 20ms

I tried the rename source thing (which apparently works on some older models) but it didn't improve matters, perhaps they've change the majik string (or realised what a bloody stupid obfuscated way of changing the behaviour that is).

Will post back with 4:4:4 results when the DisplayPort -> HDMI 2.0 adaptor arrives from Scan...
