A good Ultrawide monitor

Hi,

I would like to purchase an ultrawide monitor. I will be using it mainly for work, watching movies and the occasional game here and there (nothing too serious as I don't particularly have the time to game too much). It's main use will be more work and watching movies/tv shows.

I have come across a few monitors, however there is one that stands out, the LG 34UC98. It seems that it may be a bit of an overkill for my needs, especially as I wont be gaming that much on it, but I love it. The issue here is its price. I can't afford that price.

Are there any alternatives out there, perhaps an older model which someone can recommend me. Ideally something that is less that £700!

It's hard to know without knowing which areas you're willing to sacrifice.

LG do the very similar non-curved, lower refresh rate 34UM88 for around £500-550, as do competitors.

If you're happy with a lower resolution then you can pick up ultrawide 2560x1080 models at the same dpi for £150, or the same diagonal for £350.

I saved for a LG 34UM88C-P ($900aud). Its not curved which knocked a few hundred dollars off the price. 34 in, IPS, 10 (8+) bit, 3440x1440, FreeSync (good with AMD).

Its now down to $800.

You need to define some boundaries. I'm on the look out for a ultrawide too, but they haven't made one that meets my needs yet.

I've seen the AOC U3477PQU for sub £500. I would be careful where you buy from though and avoid buying from places like Scan and OcUK.

Well I would like my monitor to be a curved, that is without question, with a fast response time and large resolution, preferable the 3440 x 1440. I know what I'm describing sounds like I want the best, however I'm convinced there are bargains out there. I will check out the Dell monitor, it's one that has popped up a few times actually. Actually something I would like is to connect my macbook to the monitor, preferably through a USB port or something. I can manage with older model monitor as I don't think there's much difference.

I'm using the LG 34UC88 34-Inch Curved Ultra Wide WQHD IPS LED which I have found to be very good.

Especially for playing games like PES 2017 where you can practically see the entire pitch plus it doesn't use that many watts.

I'm seriously considering buying this one. How are you finding it?

I've had it 3 months now. My main use is for video editing. It has heaps of 'acreage' for timelines. Also I read that flat screen helps with editing - no distortion. Combine that with a really good price and I was hooked.
IPS - the colour is good, though it seems only marginally better than my previous Asus TN VE-247 screen. My GPU/Display Port seemed to make a big difference though - much better colours with a Nano than with a gtx670.
The On Screen Display is easy to use - by joystick or OSD software - not that I've needed to do anything with it.
Forum's mentioned backlight problems. So I was ready to return it right away if I found it a problem. But no such bad luck - it's a beauty!
That's why I recommend it - great monitor; especially at the price.
