Sound system for 4k tv setup help

I'm deciding between purchasing the SAMSUNG UE49KU6400 or the PANASONIC VIERA TX-50DX700B ((swaying towards the Samsung). Along with the tv, I'm also looking for a decent sound system to go with it.

It's a bedroom setup so I don't need anything amazing, £1000+. Something respectable to complement the tv. The one that fits the budget so far is the Bose Solo 5 TV System. (My budget is anything under £200). Anyone got a good or bad thing to say about this sound system?

Would appreciate some advice on whats good and whats bad out there as it's not something I know too much about.

    Thanks.

there is no point in a good soundsystem unless you go for a ultra HD bluray player with uncompressed audio, there a decent mid range player panasonic DMP-UB700 for £300 and can read dual layer blurays

Re: Sound system for 4k tv setup help

The Bose isn't very good - try something like the Philips HTL5140 which is bang on budget at Amazon.

I also completely disagree with me-yeah. Just about anything is better than the in built speakers, the OP isn't building a home cinema here but will benefit massively from a sound bar or small 5.1 setup in every scenario. If you do look to utilise 4K make sure your sound bar supports it as most act as an AV receiver than you plug equipment into like Xbox etc.

Re: Sound system for 4k tv setup help

Unfortunately I don't feel the same way me-yeah. A sound system will improve the whole experience of the 4k tv over its inbuilt speakers.

I visited Bose the other day to test out the Bose Solo 5 and I must say I was deeply disappointed. It's a shame as the size of the Bose is perfect. I really don't want anything too big. Want a nice simple soundbar, without the need of a separate subwoofer.

I'll have a look into the suggestions shared

a good sound system will probably end up sounding terrible with AAC audio on netflix and bluetooth surround sound, then if you don't have a bluray player you can't borrow any movies without having to rip them first before you can watch it

if the worst comes to the worst, you can buy either of the following and plug them into a USB slot on your tv and watch movies, record tv, rewind live freeview tv

With a budget of under £200 for surround that's not likely to be an issue.

OP, If going for a sound bar then you do want the separate sub because the little speakers in a sound bar will do rubbish at producing low frequency sounds at the same time as high frequency. Likewise pretty much any surround set at your budget will also need to go down a similar route. You might be able to get PC gaming 5.1 surround 'systems' within budget - or the likes of those that come with some Sony/panasonic blu-ray players etc (http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-...77188-pdt.html). The quality is bad, but if you want your surround effects there's little alternative.

Personally I would rather go Mono and high quality, but then I'm more into music than films.

The afore-mentioned 5140 is a very popular choice of soundbar+sub for the budget - keep an eye on prices, it's very frequently on offer. It's not what I'd call a 'decent sound system' though. If you can stretch the budget (and really, you should - a sound system will outlast several TV upgrades), the Yamaha YSP 2500 is probably the cheapest that will actually give you a good surround impression. Before long though you will start weighing up the pros of getting a cheap receiver and speakers, which for about the same price as your TV will blow soundbars etc. out of the window.

Re: Sound system for 4k tv setup help

Although it is good to have 4k passthrough on any soundbar/system, unless you're using an Xbox OneS for your UHD Blu-rays, they all come with 2 HDMI outputs, one main, and one sound-only, in case your sound-giving device doesn't have HDCP 2.2 or HDMI 2.0 or whatever you need to pass 4k over.

Re: Sound system for 4k tv setup help

So I've had a look around at the suggestions posted and I tend to agree with most of you that a separate sub is a must really, no point just purchasing a soundbar on its own.

So far the Yamaha suggested above is the best choice however quite expensive. Having said that it's a lovely system, and one I may decide to go for.

The Philips itself seems very good also, lots of good reviews out there.

Thanks so far for the replies by the way, I very much appreciate it

Re: Sound system for 4k tv setup help

If you've got the space, this might be an option:

    http://www.richersounds.com/product/...0/yama-yht1810

They keep popping up at RS for £199. Not sure if it passes through HDR though...

Nope doesn't look like it does, no HDCP 2.2. But you can send vision direct to the telly and sound through the amp, if you go UHD Blu-ray at some point.
