NowTV Smart Box

I see Argos have the old (Roku) NowTV box on half price with 6 months Entertainment pack, I was just wondering if the new, flatter NowTV Smart box gives you any advantage over the old box?

I've already got the old box, but buying another one seems to be the cheapest way of getting the Entertainment package for 6 months. I only want it for Game of Thrones, as I've got Virgin already...

AFAIK it's the first NowTV box with a HDD in, allowing for pausing/rewinding live TV. A bit useless these days if you ask me.

I've just done the same thing the latest box is full HD and not 720 from what I understand. I have both the old and new NowTV boxes and the new one produces a better picture

Just realised I should be able to get the NowTV app on my Samsung TV, wondering if that would be a better option, and get a £20 box from Argos and just use the code to get the passes...

Would the resolution through the app be 1080 or 720?

The new box does it have USB that works?

I have the roku 2 version but they killed sideloading apps recently which killed that function and for many using plex.

Does the new one do hevc decoding?

The new one has free view built in with live pause (but not recording) as I understand ?

The "smart box" has freeview and is expensive, the standard NowTV box doesn't and with the offers like you linked to are better than free.

Just over £3 per month, I might be getting another NowTV box (again, for Game of Thrones). The HDMI cables are useful as well. Shame the box itself is so locked down.

I've got a code for a free month, so I might just activate that when GoT starts, then pay for another month at £6.99. There's only 8 episodes this series, isn't there?

Actually, there's an offer for a month for £3.99, and then if you cancel that, they offer you 4 months at £3.49 a month. I've gone for that. You can cancel before the 4 months is up and not pay for the full 4 months, you just lose the offer...

Sounds like you found a better way to do it though, may just try and not watch the first few episodes as they come out then get them all in one month...
