    Bluetoothing a TV?

    Evening....

I haven't asked a silly question in a while, so if I may indulge?

The wife has a Smart TV - Samsung 49MU6220.

It was advertised as having Bluetooth, so I picked her up a Bluetooth wireless keyboard.
Turns out there are two USBs... but it does not have Bluetooth!

Sooo.... Can I get a generic Bluetooth dongle and somehow make this keyboard work on the TV?
I suspect not, but asking anyway, just in case.......?

You may need a Samsung specific Bluetooth dongle if it only has a specific set of drivers. That said, youmay be lucky as a lot of these sets use linux as the OS which in its general form supports BT quite well, but the only way you can find out is to try it.

Television and remote controlled things are absolute witchcraft to me... I don't even know how her SkyHD box works!!
Are there any such BT dongles you could point me at which might be Samsung suitable?

    Re: Bluetoothing a TV?

Before you try that, have you tried a standard USB keyboard? If that doesn't work, a keyboard over bluetooth might be right out.

If the TV was advertised as having bluetooth, it could be that it is only set up to work to a soundbar or headphones.

Not personally, but I understand from other owners that this does work.

    You're right, it is.
However, both we and the bloke in-shop fell for the old trick of checking the manual... turns out it's a generic manual for all Samsung 6 series TVs...

But it's less hassle trying a workaround or sending back a £12 keyboard off Amazon, than it is sorting a refund on a large TV!!

Sorry, I don't have a Samsung TV, but the more generic the better - this looks about as generic (and cheap!) as you can get https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aukru-Bluet.../dp/B00LSGUBLI

    Re: Bluetoothing a TV?

The lower end Samsungs don't have bluetooth sound out. I was looking for something I could pair my headphones to, but the lowest end one that supported it was UE40MU6400.

I actually went to a Richer Sounds shop to check it out, and it works perfectly. The lower end Samsungs if they support Bluetooth will only support bluetooth keyboards.

Amazon and John Lewis don't list it as Bluetooth enabled. Can you return it for one that does?

Most other shops seem to, with a host of recent reviews that point out the lies.

And no, it's a Currys purchase (because She wanted it on the day), so more hassle than She'll tolerate.
Far easier to send the keyboard back and find her a proper one.

I *really* don't want the hassle of hauling a £600 boxless curved TV screen all the way back to Currys, dealing with the BS around returns, putting up with the search for another one, or having to live with Her Ladyship without her TV until the stack of issues is resolved - Send back the £12 keyboard, get a USB one, peaceful life easy as...

    QFT!

(but it might be worth a punt on a generic BT dongle)

    Re: Bluetoothing a TV?

I had a look at the eManual states about bluetooth and usb. Clearly its generic.

    http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/UE65MU6220KXXU

Seems you can plug in a usb keyboard. try a keyboard with an RF usb dongle, that will be wireless and shouldn't require drivers. If you think about it these type of keyboards work even in your PC bios.

Sent it back today and sent the Mrs shopping for a wireless USB keyboard instead.

Awaiting her decision...... without breath in any way baited!
