    Home Security Camera

After a little help and insight folks.

I'm looking for a wireless camera setup, 1 or 2 cameras, outdoor, nightvision and mains powered.i
I've done some preliminary research but finding it difficult to get exactly what I want. I looked at the Arlo cameras and while they look good they are completely wireless and require batteries, which is a fuss I dont want. The wired alternatives require an ethernet connection which again, i dont want. (see, im fussy).

I'd prefer a smart version too, something that can be setup with Alexa or Google Home, and can be configured with IFTTT.

    720 or 1080

    motion activated

    umm, I think thats everything.

Pretty much I want to cover my front door and drive, possibly back garden (have a conservatory so this can be an indoor camera facing out a window) capturing anyone that walks down the drive.

Everything I can find appears to be either completely wireless or completely wired, or indoor only, or massively expensive.

    oh budget is around £300

thanks in advance for any advice.

    Mobotix M16. They're around £1k each, then you'll need a DVR also. https://www.mobotix.com/en/products/...6-allrounddual

    outdoor
    wireless
    smart
    at least 720p
    IR lighting for night use

    oh budget is around £300
    Oh. Never mind.

    Good luck.

Best bet is to forget the high-res desirables & get an outdoor PIR floodlight and an indoor camera behind a window. I use (now end-of-life) Axis M1034-W which would be okay for your purposes and is fairly cheap second-hand. No built-in IR, not outdoors, and no built-in IFTT etc. It would just need a network location to write recordings.

Have you looked at Ring as an option? They have their doorbell camera of course (which is good for the front of the house, and the hard wired pro version is very easy to fit if you have an existing doorbell) but also have a wireless camera which can come with a solar panel to keep the batteries topped up. I have this setup at the moment with the ring pro covering the front and a stick up camera at the back + the side of the house with the solar panel. Battery hasn't run out in the past 5 months since I installed them so the panel seems to be doing it's job

Sounds like a similar setup would work for you depending on where your door is vs the drive - or you can just buy two of their cameras.

Shoudl be about £300 or so, they have 720p and 1080p options, motion sensing (area + depth), IFTTT & alexa support Nest do an equivalent but not sure if they have the solar panel option for their outdoor cam or not.

    Re: Home Security Camera

I looked at the ring but was put off by the subscription service, would much rather record to a PVR than pay someone to host my footage. Annoys me that in a world full of dashcams we don't have a networked solution at a reasonable price.

I've currently plumped for a Yi camera with internal storage, basically a glorified dashcam with motion sensor and app, can view it remotely with no subscription, but if the camera gets taken then I lose the footage.

it gets delivered today, will give it a go and see how it plays out.

    Re: Home Security Camera

Its a fair point on the subscription, however it is very cheap (around $2-3 a month) and does mean that your footage is stored off site so thieves can't hunt for and steal your DVR, which is common practice these days and for me one thing that really puts me off a DVR based solution Ring also guarantee your cameras against theft as part of the deal, so if someone steals your camera they will replace for free.

Good luck with the Yi Camera let us know how you get on

    Re: Home Security Camera

I,m using PVR with 8 1080p cameras on a private network, mixer of wired and wireless tech.. connected using a Wireless router.. Access to the system is via phone/tablet/laptop or pc.
Its also not causing bottlenecks on my normal network when i,m at home and has no connections to the outside world..
coverage can be obtained externally by simply bridging the CCTV private network with the home router when i,m away..
cheap reliable system that does all i want..

Just a little warning about the bit in bold. IME 100% of "Smart" Devices have utter, utter garbage cyber security. In desiring "smart" security you are trading your feeling of physical security at the cost of cyber security.

The only solution I found to this problem was to use Blue Iris http://blueirissoftware.com/ running on a computer/VM. Then if you want to use smartphone apps etc do some port forwarding.
I haven't gone ahead yet but it seems to work with any IP camera as they all seem to support RTSP.

Caveat: I haven't actually even trialled Blue Iris. It might also be complete rubbish, however it is complete rubbish I can control if that's the case.

    Re: Home Security Camera

Have you looked at Reolink cameras?

I have the RLC-410W 5MP and it's great. My camera can be powered via PoE or adapter from the mains. Can be both wireless or wired via Ethernet. Supports 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wireless. At the same time it records to my Synology NAS but can control via the Reolink app (and record to cloud or microSD). Both remotely as well, app and the NAS. Has night vision. And it costed me less than £50 (I think) while on offer.

Check out their site, they have some cool cameras - at least appealing enough for me ;-)
