Re: Logitech Harmony - which one?

Hmm, I was looking at the Elite - especially as its now £129.

A lot of the reviews say that it can be fiddly setting it up - but that the end result is usually worth it! (My aged 555 was a bit fiddly.

There is quite a bit of help on the Logitech website.

I guess you are setting it up to use with the hub rather than as a smart IR remote? I'm not sure how the two interact - programming wise - given that the handset can act as an IR device to control appliances directly, or as an RF device to the hub which then sends IR command to the appliances. (or may both at the same time, which could confuse the controlled devices).

I set it all up with the Android app, but I had a look at the desktop app yesterday, and it seems a bit more functional. I think that it's the telly giving up on receiving/sending HDMI-CEC signals. The TV smart remote, which should turn on both the TV and the amp now only does the TV, but my Receiver icon that was made when I set up the smart remote has now changed to say Blu-Ray. Might have to give the TV a factory reset...

Re: Logitech Harmony - which one?

I would disable anything that takes the control away from the harmony and just control it independantly so you have total configuration control.

The desktop app lets you set all the order and delay of commands, so I would use that for the really in depth fiddling...

The experience you're going through is the same one I did, took me a day or two to get things really how I want them.

Re: Logitech Harmony - which one?

I'm loving the elite. Takes a little bit of time to set up exactly how you want but definitely worth it in the end. It's particularly useful for me as I use a HDMI switch into my soundbar. Did you get it in the end?

Re: Logitech Harmony - which one?

My only concern with doing that is that if you switch off HDMI-CEC, you lose ARC, and seeing as Netflix on the telly gives the best experience, this would be a fairly large issue...

Can you not throw in a SPDIF cable?

Re: Logitech Harmony - which one?

Funnily enough, I do have one. I was trying to avoid going optical but it might be the only option...

Re: Logitech Harmony - which one?

Remove CEC it's making things 10000 times more complicated than needs be.

I have 2x Harmony's. 1x Ultimate and 1x Elite (Prime Day they're always half price!)

The more recent Elite is the way to go, but as mentioned you really want the unit to do all the input switching, power and commands.
The software a little clunky but you get the hang of it fairly quickly.

Main lounge it's TV, Amp, Apple TV, PS4 and hooked into my Nest, Echo and Harmony lights (the latter don't get used that much via remote but nice to have!)

I'm using it as a hub, from what I understand, it sends an RF signal to the hub, so this can be hidden away, this then sends IR via the external transmitters to those devices that use IR (TV & BR player). I think it uses BT from the hub itself to send signals to the PS3, as this doesn't need line of sight...

Re: Logitech Harmony - which one?

Well, I dumped HDMI-CEC on the amp and TV, and things seem a bit more stable. The telly hasn't jumped to that stupid Rakuten app, and everything has been behaving. The most difficult but was threading the optical cable through everything at the back of my telly stand and getting it into the right place in the amp.

I have a Harmony One and have no problems with it. I'm planning to upgrade and get the Elite in the near future.

Re: Logitech Harmony - which one?

My Harmony 1+ finally died this week after the kids had yet another wrestling match over it. Logitech replaced it 3 years ago after the battery swelled up inside it and wouldn't come out.
I hated the Harmony ultimate they replaced it with as it has no physical keypad so I ended up stripping the 1+ down to get the battery out and replaced it. RIP 1+ you will be missed.

Why the hell don't they do one with touchscreen and a keypad, it is impossible and clunky as hell trying to work a touchscreen without looking at it.

This is the bit I miss, I keep going to the bottom of the remote to use the number pad, but it's not there. I know you can scroll to the touch number pad, but it's not intuitive. Mind you, setting up fave channels seems to negate the need for the number pad, just touch the channel you want and bob is your mother's brother.
