why not get stands and smaller fronts. Doesnt always mean you'll lose out. So long as the stands puncture the carpet, touching the floor with spikes, then maybe big old boys arent the way to go

Sure. I think I might not worry about looks if I had 11L's . The Quad package is about £1700 from memory. Prefer Floorstanders not for musical performance, just for looks.
I guess I may be at odds with some people on this subject but looks are very important to me. Cant see the point in spending a fortune on decorations and art for the room if you go and stick ugly Hifi in it or kit that just clashes.
No carpet on the floor Zak, I always have spikes going straight into the wooden floor for floorstanding speakers and for my equipment supports. Current Missions speakers are floorstanders and filled with sand, so weigh a tonne.

If you are dead set on the AE setup, then ask in Sevenoaks if they will do the package with a different sub at a similar price, it's probably worth spending an extra £50 or so...
If you definitely want floorstanders then the KEF Q1s and B&W 601s are out of the question really, but still look at the Mordaunt Short 914s, 902s, 905c and 309 subwoofer. Maybe a little more expensive, but really nice sounding once they're worn in, and the look really nice with grilles off if aesthetics is important to you as well.
can I suggest looking and LISTENING to sme cheaper speakers too. You see, no matter how hard I drove a Dodge Viper, I know I could make an Evo go faster, with less effort, in day to day driving.
And while I always wanted £200 walking boots, my favourites turned out to be £60 and I love them, from comfort, waterresistance and long life.
And while I DO want a plasma telly, my Loewe 32 not even flat tely rocks bells so hard you can hear them peel all around my world.
SO...maybe...juuuuuust maybe....you should spend half of that money on speakers.
And you may well love them for their clarity, depth and looks too.
To spend or not to spend....that is the question. Whether tis nobler on the wallet to suffer the cables and cones of outrageous fortunes...etc.etc
Try cheaper stuff....in case you fall in love.

Fronts £250
Sub £250
only £150 left for rears and centre.
Very good point Alex, Sevenoaks is one of the dealers I'll pop into on Saturday.
The Man with the Silver Spot
actually I meant buy 2 sets of those....total £500
and use one of these
http://ws2.richersounds.com/showprod...-304-AVANT-MAP
at £99
and leave the bass box until you have had those for a while, listened, understood them and worked out whats missing (if anything)
I am a GREAT believer in matching fronts and rears for films.
And for music at party's they'd go well in another room

Nearly allways (with decent speaker brands) the rule of thumb is the more expensive the better, and you may only notice it unless you hear them all in one sitting.
