How to connect SATA HDD externally to the PC

Is there a way to connect a SATA HDD externally to the PC without connecting it directly to Motherboard?

Yes, although you'll need an adapter like this. The adapters will work for SSDs and 2.5" HDDs but 3.5" HDDs will require additional power so you'll find dedicated products for that size.

that or an external enclosure or a HDD dock station if you want more protection to the HDD as it's not a good idea to power internal drives outside of some kind of chassis/mount.
